1. What is differentiation of instruction?

Differentiation instruction is whenever a teacher reaches out to an individual or small group to vary his or her teaching in order to create the best learning experiences. It is modified instruction that helps students with diverse academic needs and learning styles master the same challenging academic content. Differentiation is providing multiple options for taking in and making sense of information and a means of expressing learning.
Teachers can differentiate four classroom elements based on student readiness, interest, or learning profile. These elements include: Content- what the student needs to learn. Some examples of differentiating content can include using reading materials at varying readability levels, putting text on tape and presenting ideas through auditory and visual means. Process- activities in which the student engages in order to master the content. Some examples of differentiating process include using tiered activities, providing interest centers and developing personal agendas. Products- projects that ask the student to rehearse, apply, and extend what he or she has learned. Some examples of differentiating product include giving students options of how to express what they
