Donald Trump has been under investigation because of possible obstruction of justice, saying that he is a victim of a “witch hunt”. Robert Mueller of the special counsel is investigating the president for obstruction of justice. The witch hunt had started with Donald Trump fired former FBI director James Comey on May 9th. Mr Comey had told the Senate Intelligence Committee, that he believed President Trump had fired him to undermine the FBI’s Russia probe. The obstruction of justice investigation into Mr Trump had started a few days after Mr Comey was fired. Mueller is currently two major lines of investigation. The first is if anyone on Trumps presidential campaign were associated with the decision or with any of his businesses, which may
A few centuries ago in Europe, the fear of witchcraft led to witch hunts and executions. These occurred mostly in France, Germany, northern Italy, and Switzerland. “Tens of thousands of people in Europe and European colonies died,” and “millions of others suffered from torture, arrest, interrogation, hate, guilt, or fear,”. It is estimated that the early modern witch trials claimed the lives of nine million Europeans, 80% of whom were women which led early feminists such as Margaret Murray, Mary Daly and Barbara Ehrenreich, among others, to wonder: “Was the witch-hunt an intentional woman-hunt”. Back then, women were accused of being witches since Accusations of witchcraft required no evidence of guilt. The trials were “intended only to produce
The Salem witch trials and the Hollywood communist hunt are both the worst examples of the purification of American land and one of the worst moments of American history. Over hundreds of people were innocently killed or died because of the accusations against them. They both had ridiculous ways to point people for what they were hunting for. Life was hard back then and so were the beliefs of their certain customs. But I never said there was never supporters, but many lacked confidence and courage to be in the public and that silence costed many, soon it was a phase of American history.
Imagine, if you will, having to spend 25 years in prison for a crime that you didn’t commit. It may seem absurd and ridiculous, but it has happened before. Meet Dan and Fran Keller, a couple that ran a daycare that was accused of exposing children to satanism in many different ways. This was all because of a witch hunt in the 1980’s and 1990’s surrounded around accusing people of different acts of satanism.A witch hunt is when many innocent people are wrongly accused of crimes they didn’t commit, mainly with little, uncredible, or no evidence to back it up. The term witch hunt was derived from the Salem witch trials in which hundreds of people were accused and hanged for witchcraft. During the Salem witch trials many people were sentenced
A present day crucible in today’s world that has been occurring more and more is kneeling to the national anthem and how people that kneel don’t like our country, are only focused on helping one group/race of people, and people are being kicked off teams because of them making protests. The Anthem protests started last year in August when Colin Kaepernick sat on the bench at an NFL game during the National Anthem. After the game reporters asked him why he sat and he said, “I am not going to stand up and show pride in a flag for a country that opposes black people and people of color” (Wyche ). Since this first incident it’s spread across all of the NFL, high school sports, NHL, women's professional soccer, and even in the MLB. This protest has even been caught in the eyes of the president and there is no sign of this protest slowing down.

Known as the trial of the century, it sparked a sequence of events that are remembered in history today as the infamous Salem Witch Trials. In the spring of 1692, citizens of Salem, Massachusetts, were accused of practicing the sin witch craft. Nineteen people were hung over the course of the trials, each of them civilians who were fellow residents to the accusers during the trials. The witches that were executed though did not go silent into the night, few stood up for themselves and fought for their own innocence. Along with the help of some companions, the townsfolk who were put on trial were able to voice their opinion on their execution.
I believe Donald Trump is technically disobeying the Emoluments Clause of Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution. The lawyers have strong case due to our President gaining revenue from other countries due to several businesses, which is a direct violation of the Clause, which states any person who holds an office of the United States may not, “. . . accept of any present, Emolument. . . from any King, Prince, or foreign State.” This clause was created by our original Framers to prevent foreign corruption, and internal corruption, such as a President attempting to gain more profits or a foreign ambassador receiving a present from another country's leader. President Trump’s may favor foreign countries over the U.S in order to gain more money.
In stories set in the past such as “De Las Casas” and “An Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano” witch hunts are apparent and open people's eyes to see how they are still evident in today's society. America is seen as a place for freedom, but in several cases Americans still participate in witch hunts, but they are termed today as bullying, racism, and stereotyping. In several of the stories we read, witch hunts were prevalent in the way people within them are viewed. Moreover, there is a different type of witch hunt, as narrated in The Crucible. This type of witch hunt is a classic one. The Crucible is the quintessential tale of an individual accused of witchcraft and ultimately executed. However, this is not the type of witch
A witch hunt is an investigation carried out ostensibly to uncover disloyalty, subversive political activity, etc., usually conducted with much publicity and often relying upon inconclusive evidence and capitalizing on public fear of unpopular opinions. It causes mass hysteria and makes the public blindly follow the accuser with little to no evidence.
The issue of whether President Clinton’s implementation of DACA is a justiciable issue must be addressed first. Baker v. Carr (1962) establishes the political question doctrine. This test determines that any legal dispute dealing with separation of powers, foreign affairs,
The McCarthy era is remembered as the time of the Red Scare. “Are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party” essentially echoed throughout the halls of the American government. It was a media exploitative witch hunt; mass paranoia hovered over the population like a plague. The headline-grabbing quest to sift out Communists from the population served a purpose much greater than national security--it was to construct a narrative. Everyone was a suspect, so the inexorable name of the game was absolute conformity. The unhindering and absolute terror caused suspicions of anything slightly queer--more literally than one may expect. Right alongside (or even slightly ahead of) the Red Scare was the Lavender Scare: a vehement purge of
During the 16th century, women started to become the subject of many harsh criminal allegations. Accusations of witchcraft and persecution took over many parts of Europe, especially German and French speaking lands. As widespread witch hunts began surfacing, the question of why they started became prevalent. Europe began experiencing economic troubles in the early modern period, with “population saturation, food scarcity, and runaway inflation”. As a result of this troubled society, a scapegoat was needed to draw attention away from all of the troubles that Europe was facing. Lords with political legitimacy as well as other people with authoritative roles, like the clergy, looked at this idea of scapegoating as a way to protect their image and ensure that they remained in power. The high levels of economic and political conflict in 16th century Europe led people in authority to draw attention to easy targets, by accusing them of witchcraft.
This is likely a big misjudgment. The timing of the firing ensures that the Russia hacking scandal is not just going to melt away or be replaced with GOP allegations that efforts by the Obama intelligence community to investigate the Trump campaign constituted a "scandal."
The cartoon "The Witch Trials of 2016" is a combination of two separate events. The first event is the election of 2016. This is seen through Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton being the main focus of the cartoon. The other event is the Salem WItch Trials and this can be shown in the witch hats and the courtroom. The cartoon is comparing the two situation as one in the same. The comparison works together because of the similarities of chaos in both the Witch Trials and the Election. Trump is depicted as the judge and with that comes his authority or rather the illusion of it. Danforth didn’t have the actual say of what happened to the accused but instead the group of girls were the deciding factor. In the Crucible, the quote “I judge nothing.”
Topic 1: The Witch Hunts Witch Hunts during the post middle ages were a tragic event that led to many people to be falsely accused for the act of witchcraft and devil worship. During the 15th to the 18th centuries Europe experienced a dramatic changed in socitity as it faced the Renascence, the Protestant Reformation, and the culmination of diverse societies, this would lead to the Church and many other Europeans weary of the supernatural to find and purge anyone who would be in league with the Satanic Cult. Since those who were accused of portraying to be a servant of the Devil, would be put on trial for their crime and would be subject to many forms of punishing trials that led to over 40,000 people were put to death. Since the belief of magic was popular during those times, the higher social class would be involved in developing the idea of Devil
