Our values and beliefs are certain principles and standards which we hold in high regards. They are an important part of our identity influencing our way of life and our decisions. Someone may see great value in saving people’s lives, at the same time, for another one it may not cost a thing. For me, understanding of my values is one of the most important aspects of the personal development (Ethics and human values in health policy, 1).

Values of people engaged in health care can affect the medical support given to patients. However, it is important that own beliefs do not influence patients’ decisions. Our values and beliefs affect the quality of our work and all relationships because what you believe is what you experience. We tend to think that our beliefs are based on reality, but it is our beliefs that govern our experiences. As every human being, I also look at the world through the prism of my own values and beliefs, thus, forming my own point of view on everything including the health care policy.
Taking into consideration my previous words regarding a huge influence of upbringing in the family, I see the principle of spirituality in medicine as the crucial one, as it helps people to relieve suffering or reduce pain in difficult life situations.
