Introduction: What is home-based care? Home care, (also referred to as domiciliary care, social care or in-home care), is supportive care provided in the patient’s home. Care is to be provided by a licenced healthcare professional who provides medical care needs or by a professional caregiver who provides daily care to ensure the patient’s activities of daily living (ADL’s) are met. The term “Home health care” is used to help distinguish it from non-medical care, custodial care or private- duty care which is provided by people who are not licensed medical personnel. At a Home Health service, the caregivers help the elderly as well as pediatric clients who are recovering after staying in a hospital and those who need support at home to remain safe and avoid unnecessary hospitalization. The services that are offered may involve short-term nursing, assistive home health care, therapy, physio as well as rehabilitation. Care assistants may help with daily tasks that the patient is struggling with, such as bathing, dressing, eating, using the toilet and preparing meals. Home care is often a lower cost solution as compared to long-term care facilities. What is Buddy-day? Buddy day is a day dedicated to spending time with people with disabilities. It hosted by West Ridge High School in Horizon View. Many schools volunteer their learners to take part in this event, school which include St Catherine’s Convent, St Ursula’s Convent, La Salle College, Boys Town and West Ridge itself.
