We started sharing even more stories about how we loved foods that grandmothers made that you found amazing because of the “baked with love” moment you have for them. She explained that her grandmother was a very beautiful lady with sophistication and class. “No matter how she looked I always stared into her eyes so bright and blue.” Caroline then
Living across the street from my Papa Gene, I found myself spending every summer day in his humongous- or so my eight year old self thought- pool, treating myself. I was always the kid that thought my grandparents were a God-sent gift to me and I was the luckiest girl in the world. I can still recall the the taste of the orange creamsicle popsicles my grandma would place in a cup outside and let melt before I drank them because she knew that was my favorite way to eat them. I definitely spent the sweetest of summers at that small house with the huge pool. While many childhood memories were made at my grandparent’s house, the one picture that will burn in my head until the end of time will be the one
I had always adored being in the classroom with her and trying to learn what she was teaching her classes, although they were much higher above my learning level. I had gone to the school with her for a couple years up until the time she had retired. This was an important aspect of my life because as I got older, English was always my strong point in school. Having her teach me how to read and write helped me become advanced in my English classes. I had always gotten high grades in all of my English courses or I was always put in the higher level reading groups at school. My grandmother really helped me establish a broad range of vocabulary; with this I was able to write quite well even as a young child in my younger

After her children left home, Becki began to quilt, something she had always been interested in. With her partial retirement from nursing in 1999, she was now able to do much more sewing. She took a few classes in doll making, which turned out to be very pleasurable. For several years she made dolls to sell and even taught doll making classes.

She first started helping out in her father’s grocery store when she was in grade school. In high school, she worked at the new movie theater that was located on Center Street. First in the concessions making popcorn, and then she was promoted to selling the movie tickets. She sold Avon cosmetics, and demonstrated microwave ovens. Often time’s grandparents raising grandchildren face many challenges that are not easy for them to deal with. However, grandparents raise their grandkids willingly
Some of my favorite moments with my grandfather were how we always did everything together. I was glad I lived with my grandparents. Stuff with my actual family weren’t the best, because they thought they couldn’t handle me. My grandfather and I had so much fun throughout the years. We enjoyed going for ice cream the most. We always had the same ice cream every once in a while, but occasionally we would change it up a little. We usually grabbed chocolate ice cream for a treat, but sometimes we would decide we want a twist ice cream. I loved spending time with my grandfather.
Other hobbies that she enjoys include knitting, quilting, book club, volunteering for meals on wheels, Reiki practitioner, and traveling. She and her husband have
I distinctly remember the weeknights at his house. Sitting upon his lap, walking down the street, getting pulled in my wagon through a park--these were things I loved doing with Grandpa. I was not just another person to him: I was the ultimate grandson, and I was special.
