Poverty in the south part of the United States was 16.1% more than West, Midwest, and the Northeast side of the U.S, When you analyze poverty by race African Americans seen to be in the 27% in poverty while Hispanics make 23.5% of Poverty, But Whites and Asians don't increase higher than 12%. In 2014 this studies revealed that 46.7 million of people are in poverty since 2014 and it has risen 14.8% each year.

In “Poverty in America: Trends and Explanations”, they show statistics representing poverty through the Census Bureau and Current Population Survey data. The definition of poverty given by the Census Bureau is based on families pretax money income compared to the family size and age composition. In the United States groups of people are more likely to live in poverty based on factors such as gender, race and ethnicity, and level of education. The statistics show that men are more likely to have greater wealth than women, especially if the woman is not married. African Americans and Hispanics are nearly three times more likely to struggle from poverty than whites. Immigrants are also more likely to live in poverty than native born citizens. The current poverty rate in America is 13.5 percent (US Census Bureau). That measures out to roughly 43.1 million Americans. What exactly is poverty? Poverty means not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter. However, poverty is so much more than just not having enough money. Poverty is not having access to a doctor or medications you may need, poverty is not having access to a good education. Poverty can be the people who are barely able to pay for food and shelter and simply can’t afford other expenses such as car repairs, field trips with their children and any other extracurricular activity.

In the 2015 United States Census, statistics showed that more than thirteen percent of the population were living in poverty. Twenty five percent of them are African American’s, the group with the highest poverty percentage in America. The second group with the highest percentage of poverty are those of hispanic descent. Although the rate has decreased slightly, overall, it is still extremely high for a well advanced country like itself.

From 1959-2015 the official poverty rate in the United States had ranged from 22.4 percent in 1959 to 11.1% in 1993. When President Lyndon Johnson launched the War on Poverty in 1967, the poverty rate has fluctuated between 11 and 15 percent.
Although poverty rates and tendencies have shifted over the last few decades, a few trends have remained constant. For example, the majority of the poor population in the United States are between the ages of 18 and 64, in other words the individuals in their working years. In addition, there has always been a prevalent amount of childhood poverty throughout the US. Also, the worst poverty rates remain in the South. However, according to the 2012 US Census, more poor families are headed by women than ever before (Desilver). There are a myriad of reasons for these skyrocketing rates.
