Anyone who 's seen The Matrix will know the phrase 'know thyself ', the maxim from the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, in Ancient Greece. What we mean by self knowledge is knowing yourself at the deepest level. It means knowing your desires and goals, knowing what you believe and why you believe it, knowing what you do and why you do it. Self knowledge means being aware of the things you say and why you say them, how you deal with problems, how you navigate your way through life.

Self knowledge also involves a measure of self-awareness, or mindfulness. It is relatively easy to examine our actions in the past and explain our motivations, but it is much more challenging to be aware of your feelings, thoughts, and actions in the present moment, and acting on that knowledge in the moment.

A person who has self knowledge will be able to explain their thoughts, feelings, and actions. They will have spent time thinking about themselves and examining their processes. They will know the quirks of their own
