Courageous describes someone who is unafraid, has the confidence to keep their stance in what is right, and who is inspirational to others.. Through the years there has been several leaders known for their courage. Many of these people have been recognized for their work, considering many have done very risky task that will forever impact the nation. When these people did their impresally courageous act they used their confidence, always stuck to what was right, and stayed strong the whole time. The first indication of someone being courageous is acting unafraid of who they’re up against. A great example of being unafraid is the Monuments Men. In World War 2, Hitler planned to take Europe’s finest paintings, but they Monuments Men hid over two million paintings from the Nazis. They ended up also saving Vinci’s Last Supper, by putting steel bars and sandbags around the whole wall, which the painting was painted on, before the Nazis raided it. One example is Rosa Parks not giving up her seat to white woman. In 1955, Rosa Parks got on the bus and sat in a seat designated for African Americans to sit. When a white woman boarded the bus, there were no seats left in the front, so she went to the back of the bus. Rosa Parks was asked to move, so the white woman could take her seat .But, Rosa Parks responded with a no. Then the bus driver called the police and had Rosa arrested for not giving up her seat. Then, the African Americans started a boycott and none of them rode the bus for 381 days. Eventually, the United States Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation was against the constitution, so it was banned. And during the whole time Rosa and the African Americans stood with confidence for what was right. This story tells that people who are really courageous stand for what they think is right with all the confidence they
Courage is a cardinal virtue every human being needs. Courage is doing something frightening you are for the right being even if you are alone in your belief. Many regular humans have used courage also. For example Dr. Martin Luther King jr. stood up for all African Americans, even though almost everyone did not agree with him. He eventually helped end segregation by raising awareness. Sadly, Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was killed just for his beliefs. Today we celebrate a holiday for his great bravery. Bravery is a synonym of courage.
One good example of courage is in Homer's epic poem, “The Odyssey,” when Odysseus enters the Cyclops’ cave. In the epic poem Odysseus and his men enter the Cyclops cave and the text states “We climbed, then, briskly to the cave. But Cyclops had gone afield..." (Homer 157-158). This example demonstrates that Odysseus enters a Cyclops cave and is not fearful. Odysseus enters the cave because he sees treasure and wants to get it for him and his crew. Odysseus chooses to enter the cave even though he knew the cave was the Cyclops home and this demonstrates courage, and this is why the trait should be encouraged. Another good example of courage that sticks out is Newton Knight, who chooses to help slaves even though he lives in the south during the Civil War. In the Biography.com Editors’s article, “Newton Knight,” Knight chooses to stop fighting for the Confederate Army and goes back to his hometown to help slaves, as the text states “They saw themselves as defending the residents of Jones County from the Confederacy” (Biography.com Editors 1). Therefore, this example demonstrates that Knight chooses to fight against the Confederate Army even though he lives in Mississippi. It takes a lot of courage to go up against the Confederate Army even though he lived in the south and almost everyone was against him. It should
Another courageous person I know is my grandfather, Gary Breeden. When he was younger he was a marine in the Vietnam War. This shows courage because, he volunteered to fight for his country. He put himself in danger to protect, not only his loved ones, but the entire country which is a very brave and courageous thing to do. Volunteering to be in the military also shows a lot of courage because all throughout boot camp and training, the body and the mind are pushed to their breaking point. Breeden has taught me how to help others by sacrificing his life for the greater good. Breeden also displays courage by always putting the needs of others before his own. My grandfather puts his needs second to the needs of his loved ones. Breeden allows himself
Courage is not facing a problem without any fear. Courage is facing an obstacle despite their fear. Standing up for what they believe in, even though there will be negative consequences. That is true courage. The book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee does a great job of showing this.
One person who I would consider courageous is Chris Kyle. He is the Navy Seal featured in the popular American movie “American Sniper,” he is pretty much a badass and one of the most legendary service members in American history. He has 160 confirmed kills and 255 claimed kills. This is a lot more than other snipers in our military. To say the least he had balls. Without courage Chris would never have joined the Military, and most definitely would never have passed the seal training. Most of all though he would never have pulled the trigger on at least 160 Taliban members. Without courage he would never have been any type of success. Courage is a necessity to succeed on any scale though. You probably won’t become an American legend, but in order to land that awesome job
( Definition of Courageous 2016). In times of erratic persecution the cowards will be revealed but the courageous will be delivered. It all starts with someone wanting
What do you think makes someone courageous? Is it perseverance, respect, integrity, discipline, excellence, Or all of them? Three that I picked was discipline, perseverance, and excellence. One person I know is courageous is Susan Brownell Anthony (also know as Susan B. Anthony.) Anthony is undeniably courageous because of Discipline, Perseverance, and Excellence.
Throughout history, there have been countless times whenre individuals have courageously fought for change and societal justice. For instance, Gandhi helped India gain their independence, even though the circumstances were extremely risky for him, and could have led to his arrest or even death. However, he continued to persevere through it all, and was able to accomplish great things for his country. Another example is Malala Yousafzai, who promoted the education of girls in her country. Despite the clear threat of the Taliban, she continued to fight hard for her cause. Courage can be defined in many different ways, such as the ability to persevere and accomplish something in a frightening or risky situation. Examples of courage can be seen all around the world. Without courageous people, society would not have been able to improve. Being courageous is difficult, and requires an abundance of dedication and perseverance. It also includes remaining strong, despite the challenges that may occur along the way.
Courage is a trait that has been possessed by a lot of leaders in history, from presidential leaders to civil right leaders, to even athletic coaches, courage is used in every leadership position and is a very important trait when wanting to become a leader. Courage takes a lot of self-work you must be fully committed to your values and what you believe in before you go out and get a career like Job. Frederick Douglas escaped slavery and later became a main leader of the anti-slavery movement through all his published writings. Courageous leaders also make time for their peers and their employees because courageous leaders not only believe in themselves but believe in the team that works for them. Courage is also shown through sports form coaches to players. They are required to sacrifice some of their beliefs so their team can be one unit and work as one. They show courage day in and down out, standing up for what they believe in and their team which speaks volumes within an organization. Courageous leaders seem to be the most effective type of leaders because those types of leaders relate to you or has a common interest. These leaders preach what they believe and stick to it even through tough times when it calls for them to step outside their box.
Some people say to be courageous you have to do something as big as running into a burning building to save someone's life. However there are a variety of ways to display your courage. The characters in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee display multiple representations of courage. Being courageous means to take risks, stand up for others, and do what you believe in, even if you may fail.
We all have opportunities to display courage in our life, but if we actually do is our decision. Courage is being able to do what is right even if it can be hard. In the book Speak by Laurie Halle Anderson I found three different examples of courage. In this book Melinda Sordino, David Petrakis and Melinda, again all show courage.
Courage in simple words means an act of bravery. Everyone has their own definition, for some the meaning is much more complicated for others it's very simple. When I think of someone who is courageous I think of my Dad and military individuals people who have fought for their country. People like doctors and scientists people who don't think about themselves when faced with a choice to give up. My definition of courage is a person that has the strength needed to do the unthinkable. Certainly, that is not just it. Courage takes a bigger picture of an act of bravery. When one is courageous enough to do what is right, he earned the utmost respect of human spirit. While some may see being courageous has to be doing a big thing, it boils down to a thing as small as saying “Sorry, I was
To begin this assignment I began to explore Theme 2 of the Jones International University database and an EHow website to get a better understanding of the style of conflict experienced between the Lockheed Martin Corporation and the Pentagon. I began to get a better understanding of the conflict styles by reading Theme 2; coincidentally I looked for the specific one that I thought fit the conflict style read in the article from the Washington Post—it just so happened to be 5 categories of conflict styles present. Next, I focused my attention toward the article
According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 20% of Canadians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Mental illness is a serious issue within society which can hinder the lives of all who are affected by it. Insanity (or “madness” as it is called in Hamlet), is defined by google as a state of frenzied or chaotic activity. Madness is something which can be exploited by those who appear to suffer from it. The exploiting of insanity stems primarily from the criminal justice system, where a plea of insanity could potentially get a murderer a sentence of some time in the mental hospital instead of a life in prison.
Today, the legendary author, Edgar Allan Poe, is harrowed for his macabre tales of the grotesque and terrifying. His name is almost synonymous with the horror genre itself. However, apart from his famously fear-inspiring short stories, Poe also wrote various works describing his time as a youth. An example is the 22-line poem, “Alone”. In “Alone”, Edgar Allan Poe makes an effort to describe his sorrowful and confusing feelings as a child. Staying true to his signature style of utilizing creative dashes and contraptions, Poe transports the reader into the tormented mind of the author in his childhood.
