Like Pulp Fiction it is also pretty long movie, but because both movies were directed and acted wonderfully those three hours go by fast.Pulp Fiction is directed by Quentin Tarantino as well as another critically acclaimed movie Reservoir Dogs, that I have yet to see. Pulp Fiction takes place mostly in California where most of the movie two hitmen go retrieve a briefcase for their boss, shooting almost everyone they come into contact with. Aside from that, the beginning of the movie starts with diner heist if you believe it or not. This movie is has drug use, gunshots, brain matter, and diner heists, all the ingredients for a crime genre film . On the other side of the spectrum Pulp Fiction is listed a drama genre as well. Quentin adds drama brilliantly in one short scene where John Travolta character Vincent has to keep his boss’s wife named Mia, company while away. After Vincent and Mia, finish their dinner at a car themed restaurant go back to Mia’s place and Mia begins to to OD on Vincent’s heroin after snorting it like coke.

Intertextuality is a significant factor within Tarantino’s work, as by reinventing the old he is able to preserve originality and create a sense of dimension within his work. Tarantino refers to ‘Pulp Fiction’ not as a movie but as multiple movies. An example of pastiche within the film is present in the scene in which Marcellus Wallace coincidentally recognises Butch in his car while walking across the street. This action mimics the scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” where Marion’s boss recognises her as he crosses at traffic lights. Through this pastiche Tarantino is able to show his appreciation and influence of Hitchcock’s infamous films while also applying the scene in a postmodern context. Another occurrence of pastiche appears in Butches weapon of choice; a baseball bat and chainsaw. These weapons of choice pay homage to the films ‘Walking Tall’ and ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’

Their dialogue is witty and entertaining, and it's also disarming, because it makes these two thugs seem all too normal. If you didn't know better, you might assume these were regular guys having chit-chat on their way to work. Other than the comic payoff at the end of the scene, in which they use parts of this conversation to taunt their victims, their talk has no relevance to anything in the film, or to anything else, for that matter. Yet without such scenes, "Pulp Fiction" wouldn't be "Pulp Fiction." I get the sense that Tarantino put into the film whatever struck his fancy, and somehow the final product is not only coherent but wonderfully textured.
