Biblical View of Human Nature Human nature is the very essence of our being. In the Hebrew Bible, or the Old Testament, it states that God created humans “in his own image” which means that we as a species were made distinctly different from all other beings. (Genesis 1:27 NABRE) However as the human flesh became distorted by sin, God chose to send to the world his own begotten son, Jesus Christ, in order to show what mankind should emulate and to restore the human nature, which had been given to humans in the beginning. According to the Torah, God formed the world into what we know it today and then created human beings to have “dominion” over all the creatures, which he had created. Some of the attributes amongst others are the ability to logically think, and be morally responsible. With these attributes God personally created us from the “dust of the ground” and blew into our nostrils the “breath of life.” (Genesis 2:7 NABRE) Being created from the earth, which God saw as “good” with each creation he had made, and being given life from God himself, God states humans are “very good” and at this point humans are inherently good. Jesus Christ served, as the epitome of what mankind should be and the ultimate solution for us. With the temptations of sin all around him, Jesus was devoid of any sin and didn’t give in to any temptation. Dying for our sins on a cross and being raised from the day three days later, Jesus serves as a sign to the human race of what we should strive to be like and that life, everlasting life will be bestowed upon those that try to conquer this sin and turn to God. With belief in Jesus Christ oneself is “a new creation; old thing have passed away.” (2 Corinthians 5:17
