How can two stories that seem totally different have similarities?. In the story, The Most Dangerous Game, written by Richard Connell, a world renowned hunter is trying to survive 3 days in the jungle while learning what it is like to be the animal being hunted. In the movie, High Noon, written by Carl Foreman, a western town's marshal is preparing for the biggest fight of his life in a classic western film with a twist added. In the movie, High Noon, and the story, The Most Dangerous Game, the conflicts and main characters are comparable, and the settings are contrasting, which influences the plots in both stories. High Noon takes place in an old western town in the New Mexico Territory, and The Most Dangerous Game takes place on a deserted island in the tropics near Brazil. Will Kane has an advantage of knowing the town, where Rainsford isn't familiar with the island. Kane also has the opportunity to leave town, and Rainsford can't leave the island. If the setting of The Most Dangerous Game wasn't in an isolated place, it would be harder to hunt people. "Dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliffs" (Connell 5). This quote is saying that the island is covered with jungle, which plays a big role in how Rainsford is able to survive. "The place is Hadleyville, population around 400, located in a Western territory still to be determined, a town just old enough to have become pleasantly aware of its existence, and to begin thinking of its appearance" (Foreman 40). This is a quote describing the appearance of the town. It is an old town, and is just old enough to be heard of. Without it being an old town, the conflict wouldn't be enforced as much because of the shots when he walks down the old streets alone to show loneliness.
