What Is The Difference Between The Outsiders Play And Movie

The Outsiders is a movie directed by Francis Coppola based on the novel written by S.E. Hinton. The movie is about a gang of greasers during the 60s in Tulsa, Oklahoma who are tormented by a gang of rich kids called the Socs. One night when the main characters Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny (Ralph Macchio) are going for a walk the Socs take it too far which leads a chain of exciting events involving the rest of the gang, Sodapop (Rob Lowe), Darrell (Patrick Swayze), Two-Bit (Emilio Estevaz), and Steve (Tom Cruise). I liked that in the movie it wasn’t just all action. There was the perfect amount of action so it wasn’t boring but it wasn’t just all action (which is also boring in my opinion). There was a perfect mix between dialogue and action which kept the movie interesting and kept me watching. What was good that the actors stayed true to their character in the book, but what wasn’t good was that their appearances looked nothing like they did in the book. For example Dallas was beach blonde in the book but in the movie he was brunette (Matt Dillon played him). They did look their age though, even though Ralph Macchio who played Johnny was 22 in The Outsiders he looked 14 as he was described in the book. …show more content…

He looked like a boy who was shy and had seen a lot and been through more than a 16 year old shouldn’t have been through. He played his role as a scared boy very well. An actor that I don’t think did very well was Diane Lane as Cherry. She was very boring and bland and didn’t play Cherry very well compared to what she was like in the books. Overall I think the acting was pretty good although Ralph Macchio stood out to me the
