What Is The Difference Between The Shark And The Maka Shark

Normally when the word shark is heard a picture of only one comes to mind. The Great White Shark which is widely known, due to the portrayal of their aggressive behavior in the “Jaws” movie series. But in actuality, Mako Sharks are a more skilled predator. Although Mako Sharks and Great White Sharks are both similar, there are a plethora of differences in speed, diet, and size.
Mako Sharks are the second fastest out of all sea life in the ocean. Besides being trumped by the Sailfish the Mako is the fastest shark due to all the muscles in its body. The Mako Shark has evolved over many years. Due to its sleek body and powerful muscles, the Mako Shark is able to reach speeds of 60 mph. Nevertheless this speed the Mako still struggles at times to catch its prey.
The diet of sharks is typically similar in some cases, but surely not this one. As stated in (Preti’s) article, “Makos are thought to be opportunistic feeders that eat locally abundant prey.” Makos, unlike other sharks, feed on fish that aren’t so big such as mackerel, bonito, anchovy, and sardines. This diet is different from other sharks being that Makos go after smaller prey that is normally unattainable by other sharks.
The Mako Shark’s size doesn’t do it justice as it is one of the smallest sharks in the ocean. Makos grow to a typical size of around 260cm.
