¨The Diary Of Anne Frank¨ has its own main idea or central. The book is based on the holocaust.Anne Frank is a Jew and in the 1940s Hitler hated and mistreated Jews.Jews, like Anne Frank had to hide so they wouldn’t get beaten up or killed by Hilter’s followers. Also in those years the World War 2 had began.
In 1933, the nazi took power in Germany, which cause depression to a lot of people. At the beginning, Nazi defy the Jews, Gypsies, and the disabled. In March 1933, the first concentration camp was built and later on more concentration and death camps were made. A family named the Franks went into hiding with the Van Daans in Amsterdam. In the popular book and story of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl there are many themes present throughout her journal. It’s a touching piece of literature that puts things into perspective about family, warfare, loneliness, and selfishness. Her diary gives insight about people who are actually living in those circumstances from Anne’s point of view, resulting in a more factual story than fictional novels loosely based on true events. Anne goes through a lot during her time in the Annex, including tense arguments with her family, bombings, thieves, Peter, and Dussel moving in. The events may not seem like that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but to a young girl, it’s a huge change of events. It shows a lot from her in the way she acts, Anne’s selfishness proving that stress and war can change people to be more selfish.
The holocaust was a horrible time in people's lives and it killed six million people. Even though this happened to so many people Anne Frank was someone that so many people look up to because of her diary that she wrote during this time. Anne Frank, her family, and the Van Danns all spent 25 months in the secret annex. Dussel was someone that came in later so it was very tight for 8 people to be living under certain circumstances for that long. They hoped to stay hidden until they were liberated but they were caught and sadly the only one that lived through the concentration camps was Mr.Frank. Many historical events took place in Anne Frank. Even though most of these things occurred while they were in hiding, it still changed the characters mood and relationships.
Ever played a game of hide and seek? Well it was slightly like that for the Franks (A Jewish family living during the Holocaust) except they were forced to play, and if caught the consequences were deadly. The theme of Anne Frank is human growth involves pain, this is the theme because life can’t flow smoothly without a few bumps, there's always a few things you have to get past first. Anne Frank and her family were forced into hiding because they were Jewish, and Jewish people were discriminated against and killed in concentration camps during the Holocaust.
One of the events being represented in Anne Franks Diary is D-Day. Which was a horrendous and tragic event that occurred during the Holocaust. On D-Day our allies arived on Normandy. Which was a beach north of France. While they were unloading they were ambushed by German troops hiding in rooms with heavy artilery. That day the allies lost many of their troops to the terrible ambush but eventully able to push through and take down the German troops. When this invasion occurred all the Jews jumped and cheered with relief that finally the allies have attacked. "Did you hear that, everybody? Did you hear what I said? The invasion has began! The invasion!"(Goodrich and Hackett 179). This quote marks the first attempt of the allies invading Germany. This affected Anne's family in a positive, and happy way because it gave them hope that maybe the war would be over soon. Which sparks hope for all the Jewish people either in hiding or in a concentration camp that they could possibly be saved. There were many more then just one event such as D-day for instance the Numerburg Laws.
In conclusion, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis brought a lot of damage to the Jewish and others. People were forced to hide in order to keep their lives. While they were hiding they could not do a single thing that would put them at risk of being found. “The Diary of Anne Frank” puts all of this into perspective. Anne kept a diary with her while experiencing the struggles of this war. Her diary helped people to feel what she was feeling during that time.
In the Diary of Anne Frank there is symbolism. An example of this is how symbolism is about the Star of David. Goodrich writes,”We had to wear yellow stars”(Goodrich page 703). This represents symbolism because the Jews had to wear the Star of David. Yellow stars is another word for a symbol that the Nazi’s made the Jews wear on all of their clothes. The Star of David symbolizes faith and hatred from the Nazi’s. It is very hard for Anne to burn her yellow star. Goodrich writes,”You can’t throw…? Something they branded you with …? That they made you wear so they could split on you? I know. I know. But after all, it is the Star of David, isn’t it?”(Goodrich page 709). In conclusion, this quote symbolizes faith.
Throughout stories a lesson of some kind is taught and characters develop and grow. Diary of Anne Frank takes place during the Holocaust in Amsterdam. Since Anne and her family are Jewish they are hiding from the Nazis along with another family. Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett wrote the play based off of the diary that Anne kept while they were in hiding. While they are hiding Anne grows and changes. Anne Frank changes throughout the play because she matures and thinks about the world differently.

The Holocaust was a horrible time for Jewish people and Anne and her Jewish family’s lives were completely turned upside down as a result. The war resulted in the deaths of countless people, mostly innocent people.
