I learned that there is multiple layers of meaning in Spiegelman’s Maus, and how people nowadays do not take the time to find the mean to comics. Another thing is that Maus covers multiple different topics like: gender roles, the relationship between Art and artie, and the use of Animals instead of people. Some of the obstacles were analyzing the articles and the text itself. I had to look over the text over and over again to find Examples that would work for my paper. When I listen to the Articles and marked parts of the paper that applied to the topic I was writing about. 3. What was the most difficult aspect about this paper, and what did you learn from the attempt? The most difficult aspect of this paper was choosing a thesis statement because there were so many options. But I learned to narrow the theme of the novel down to what I thought the author was trying to portray.
The Holocaust is an event that everyone prays will never happen again. Many people just tried to survive through the ordeal; many did not. If you survived it was either because of luck or some sort of economic advantage. We see this theme in Art Spiegelman 's book Maus. Many of the situations Vladek, the main character, finds himself in, he would have never mahde through without luck and/or his socioeconomic status.
Thus, I am worthy to aid others with their academic encounters (Walden University (2014c)). Similarly, in the second part of the test, I learned I have an aural learning style. Before week three, I never thought about this area. But it is true that when I listen to music while studying, I focus much better than studying in silence. The music also provides inspiration when I get tired or feel like I cannot finish an assignment (Walden University (2014 d)).Again, In the discussion this week, I learned, story’s, paintings, videos and music are all a kind of effective realism. And incorporating voices, video or descriptive words can alter how I envision a piece of work. Therefore, it is imperative to be eloquent with words. Hence, write so the reader can get the actual importance the author is trying to portray. Too, I learned that the plot of the story can be transformed exaggeratedly when technology is added.
How does Vladek become more selfish, in terms of money, after going through the Holocaust?
Does any human actually want to take responsibilities for the mistakes they made? Doesn’t every human want to feel bad for themselves when they make what the consider a mistake? Many people were traumatized by a horrific event that they were forced into, while their friends and family were all being killed and forced to work against their will for the Nazi’s. While many people were affected, not all of them were able to fully explain how hurt they were as it was something that was not easy to talk about for them. In a graphic novel called Maus, the author Art Spiegelman is trying to connect to his father and understand the hardships he went through during a hard time called the Holocaust. The author starts to talk about the Holocaust with his father and starts to learn how hard it was for his father, Vladek and his now deceased mother, Anja. His father and mother fought to not go into the camps until the last second, doing anything possible to stay away from them whether it meant lying or hiding with the rest of their family. When discussing this with his father he wanted to be able to tell his father’s story for him, as he was never able to do it himself. Not only does Spiegelman just tell his story with words, he tells it with pictures through a graphic novel, using unique techniques with the illustrations in order to explain how broken human relationships were at this time period. When you experience a significant event firsthand, you learn how to deal with it so the next time you encounter a similar event, you are prepared for the situation. Vladek Spiegelman, the main character from the graphic novel, Maus, by Art Spiegelman which details a father-son interview of Vladek who survived World War ll is a perfect example of this. Vladek was ambitious and caring before the Holocaust and was enjoying life with his wife Anja, and son Richieu. However, after being held in Auschwitz and experiencing these terrible events firsthand, the Holocaust took its toll on Vladek and instead of being caring and clever, he is now frugal and very depressed.

The struggles with faith during the Holocaust World War 2 had cost over 10 million lives. Six million were Jews, who were placed into concentration camps. Over the course of the Holocaust, many Jews had undoubtedly questioned their faith. During such a difficult occurrence, mental strength can be one of the only things that saves you. Some even gave up on God entirely.
When taking English Composition 2 I have learned various things that I can carry through with me throughout the rest of my academic and social life. The class English Composition 2 touched on the components of character, setting, short story, drama, and poetry. With each section and a lecture on each section I have taken away a piece away from each section, one thing that is for sure I will never read literature the same after this class. When talking about character we looked into the story Gorilla My Love and how the story is told through the eyes of a young black girl named Hazel. Concluding from this section of the class I learned that if the characters were to be different characters the story would change as whole. When looking deeper into the concept of setting as a class we had the opportunity to learn how to depict where the setting is, and learn how the setting can make a difference in any type of literature. For the concept of short stories as a student I looked deeper into the story of 20/20. After, a struggle on the topic of short stories I learned the different compontes that go into and are used in making a short story. The comic Maus, by Art Spiegelman, is an Animal Farm-esque story, using animals as means of communicating through characters, to tell the story of Hitler and the Holocaust. The Holocaust is often referred to as the most prominent example of racial discrimination and hatred. By Spiegelman’s use of mice, cats, and pigs to tell they grim truth to his father’s historical ties with the Holocaust, he is allowing the readers to experience the dismal past with clear understanding. This comic, printed first in 1980, was the first of its kind to give such comprehendible reading to younger or less educated people. The most compelling page in Maus is the one when Anja and Vladek are going towards Sosnowiec although they do not have the goal destination. They are heading somewhere and hoping for the best. This story is narrated with the help of design and illustration and it is very interesting because it is based on the life story of the creator. Spiegelman designed the novel by keeping the illustrations simple and it is done in black and white instead of coloring. The story follows the lives of Jews who are being exterminated by Hitler and the Nazis and the design is simple because it emphasizes the story that is supposed to elicit strong emotions which makes the balance between the illustration and the content. This report is based on the best-selling graphic novel Maus, written by renowned American cartoonist Art Spiegelman. The book was originally published in 1986 by Pantheon Books. The anomalous novel depicts the life and story of Art Speigelman’s Polish born parents - Vladek and Anja Speigelman and how they survived the Holocaust. In his novel, the Jews are portrayed as mice, the Poles as pigs, and Germans as cats. The story alternates between the parents’ struggles and the present day strained relationship between Vladek Speigelman and his son, including the suicide of Art’s mother when he was 20 years old and its effect on them.
In her comic-style article you can see there is a lot of visuals as you go through the reading. The visuals throughout the article helps the readers get her ideas more clearly than a regular article with no images. For example, on the first page of the article she talks about homophily and even though she gives the definition before the word, the picture of her in a flock of birds can help the reader understand and visually see that homophily means the groups we associate ourselves that have similar views to us. In my opinion, the reason for this assignment is for the teacher to see where we are in our reading, and writing. Reading to me must happen when I am interested in something for example, a movie because I enjoy reading about the plots but everyone is different. Another example is a graphic novel, because you can understand the concept or plot a lot easier than you would do in a regular novel. In regular books, you have so many things going on and you aren’t able to understand what is happening then you end up getting the wrong idea. Writing is just about the same for example, I can’t write about something that I know nothing about or interested in. When I first started this course I didn’t know what to expect. I really enjoyed writing but there was a lot of areas that I needed to work on. When I first started to review the modules I was blown away by all the helpful sites that were at my disposition. The Power points and different sites completely changed my whole perspective of writing to a whole new dimension. Thanks to the modules I am more confident right now before I even begin an essay. I remember in the past how beginning an essay was so difficult for me because I didn’t know how to even start. In this course I have learned how to begin an essay, how to manipulate information, and how to use in-text documentation properly. These are just some of the few things that I will definitely be taking with me in the future for my courses and personal growth.
