The song “Birdland” give a sense of sadness and loneliness by the boy, who is grieving the loss of his father. The boy is unsure how he will face the world without his father, and desperately want to reunited with hm. The sadness and desperation can be sense when the boy cries out and say “let’s go up, up, take me up, I’ll go up….” “the the ship slide open and we’ll go inside...” I could not imagine what is like to lose a parent, but I can relate to the sadness because I lost my dear grandmother last year. My grandmother was someone who guided me to do right, and further my dreams, just like his father to this young boy. This song gives so many emotions, in a sense I feel like the boy will lose his mind trying to reunited with his father.
The message behind this song and music video is one that everyone can relate too. More than likely, we have all lost someone in our life who we truly loved and cared for. Understanding, coping and accepting death would be so much easier if "Heaven wasn't so far away". We all wish we could go see the person we have lost due to death, but as we know once they are gone, they are gone. The message of this song definitely has an uplifting, subliminal message.
Writing, as described by E.L. Doctorow, is an exploration. In her novel, Bird by Bird, Anne Lamott explores the writing process, providing her insight on stylistic, theoretical, and instructional points. These points are essential in the composure of a book and are prevalent in many literary works such as Tim O’Brien’s The Things they Carried. In his book, O’Brien relives his time on the frontlines of the Vietnam War, telling fictional stories of life before, during, and post war. The novels are tied together with O’Brien’s use of character development, dialogue, and design setting strategies as discussed in Bird by Bird.
I think this song really resonated with me because as it says in the hook “you should’ve seen it in color” back in my grandparents day it was so completely different then it is today and I don’t think people truly realize how different it was and we won’t ever really know because we can’t go back to that time. Our grandparents can try and tell us how it was and their stories, but we will never truly know what it was like. I also think that the hook explains perfectly how this song ties in with theme two: music and identity, because I think if someone such as my grandfather listened to this song and heard the part about the grandfather talking about being in the war it would bring him back to when he was in the Vietnam
Birdsong is a novel set in the period before, during and after the First World War. Automatically one would think of the loss of life that was suffered during this time, but the loss of life is not the only form loss suffered during this time. Standing side -by -side with the loss of life is the loss of love and the loss of faith. Faulks uses vivid descriptions and contrasting images to place the reader at the scene and make them empathise with the characters. Loss is one of the most poignant themes in the book, and is one that fuels a majority of the lines written.
To illustrate, at the end of the poem, the music is “mercifully opening into the unforgiving new day.” The word “merciful” relates to how the notes provide a sanctuary in his mind to avoid the everlasting solitude of his “unforgiving” day-to-day life. In addition, the narrator is aware of his grim lifestyle, but he also has decided that it was never going to get better, at least when he doesn't play music. He wishes to “turn [himself] into a bird” but realizes that he is “earthbound.” As stated previously, the bird represents a calm, freeing state by using the word “earthbound,” which contrasts the ability of flight that birds possess.
The structure of the poem is a great way to emphasize this metaphor. The poem wants people to know that there is always a reason to be hopeful. The deeper meaning of "Sympathy" is that everyone is being held back and want to be free, this is developed through the use of figurative language, structure and theme development. The whole poem is a metaphor where the birds are people and the cage is the object keeping them back.
The Pigeons And The Girls by Christopher Middleton was a poem about how everyone is the same, whether it be an animal or a human. The poem is also told in two point of views; the girl’s point of view and then the pigeon’s point of view. I could not find many rhetorical terms in the poem except one. I also feel like Middleton is somehow trying to compare the fragile woman with a pigeon, or he is trying to make a reference to how sometimes girls can seem small or flightful like birds. Imagery was the only rhetorical term that I found in the poem, and it was in the quotes, “a thigh or hip bone was not working right,” and “she still held the other by the hand...she was thin, she limped.” The quote brought out the image of a young lady walking
The poem “Love Song” by Carol Muske-Dukes is about lost love. She uses a sparrow that lost its family. The life in this poem is being lived in a house in a village. The poem suggests this when it states, “He and I had a blue landscape, a village street, some poems, bread on a plate” (stanza 5). The poem doesn’t tell us when this poem takes place only where it happens. The tone of the poem is nostalgic. The bird misses its family. Two times the poem shows that the bird is nostalgic, “All day it pecks at the tin image of a faceless bird.” (stanza 3-4), “Love was faceless even when we’d memorized each other’s lines.” (stanza 6) The 1st quote shows that he wants his family back because all he does is stay with a tin bird which is the only resemblance
My story has a meaningful story behind it. The story is deep for me and even for the artist and probably for many other people. Hearing songs like this can inspire you. It inspired me to be thankful for the people in my life. One day they can be here the next they could be gone. You never know what’s going on in their lives.
This song tells a story about the struggles an immigrant deals with in America and I think ending with this lyric leaves a lasting stand on listeners to keep fighting for what they want and to not give up. I also like that he took a character from a book to show that community and the human spirit will get through bad
Presidio Texas is the best and safest town. I like and I love this town because almost every day it is calm. U should come to presidio because it is a really safe town and there is a lot of stuff your gonna like. In presidio, there are a lot of stores swimming pools and Raspas. U should really come to your gonna see I was correct. Presidio Texas is a really fun place because there are swimming pools and viva la Raspas or baseball and track fields. That is why it is so fun. In presidio almost every single day it is calm. Presidio is a very little town. I recommend you to come to presidio because it is fun. What I like the most is the baseball field. You should really come to presidio I guarantee you that your gonna like or even love this place.
The track deals with the aftermath of a death of a friend and the pain that comes with it. With such a personal story like this, an intimate connection between the singer and audience is developed. The lines, “Wishing I was someone else/ Feeling sorry for myself/ And I remembered someone’s kid is dead” hit you with with reality and are possibly the most powerful on the whole record. Some of the tracks make you wonder if the twenty two year old singer songwriter is okay and for me it was “Killer”. The main theme of the song is about the lack of control people have over others and the loneliness felt when feelings are not reciprocated by those we love.
Romanticism 1. Profound love of nature: “To a Waterfowl” by William Cullen Bryant At the mere age of twenty-one, Bryant masterfully captured the profound beauty of the elegant waterfowl in this poem. Full of ethereal mystery and an incredible appreciation for nature, this poem is considered one of Bryant’s greatest. Beginning with a description of the speaker’s location, the poem sets the mood for the following stanzas. Bryant states, “Whither, midst falling dew / While glow the heavens with the last steps of day / Far, through their rosy depths, dost thou pursue /
In the last stanza, the caged bird’s song symbolises the emotions and cries of freedom. The combination of the two represents that there is a need for every child to reach their full potential. Something that cannot be achieved with helicopter parenting and the barriers placed upon them.
This very slow song, so in my opinion I think it reinforces a sense of bittersweet, because even though she mentions how she wants to be remembered for the good things that she did she also mentions death and regrets in her song.
