The Playoff Push
It was week 13, and panic was beginning to set in. My record was now 6-6 after losing 3 weeks in a row. The playoffs were approaching and I was fighting for a playoff spot, trying to beat out the other teams who were holding me back, like Poseidon. I studied the waiver wire, trying not cut my finger on my shattered phone, over and over again like my life depended on it. The TV was playing softly in the background, just loud enough so I could hear it. Then I heard the words that I wait all week for, “And now welcome your host, Matthew Berry”.
Matthew Berry was like my Athena, guiding me through my journey and helping me make decisions. I was watching extra carefully today, trying not to blink so I don’t miss any

Touchdown after Touchdown, point after point, but I sat motionless on the couch, like a sack of potatoes, trying not to miss a minute of the action. The day felt like it would never end.
The morning games were beginning to end, and the afternoon games were beginning to kickoff now and I was losing 65-55, but I knew that a comeback was still possible. Then all the stars began to align. Within the span of 3 minutes, McCown threw a touchdown, Evans caught a touchdown and Matt Prater nailed a field goal right through the middle of the uprights. I was now winning 97-86 with only the Sunday night game remaining. Tonight the Vikings were playing the seemingly unstoppable Jaguars in Jacksonville. Earlier in the day, I ended up making the last minute decision to start Murray over McCoy, however, he still had Bortles and Fournette to play. The projections were 102-105 in his favor, and we were neck to neck and the race was about to end.
The time had come, it was now or never. I was still sitting on the couch, but now I was sitting up tense, panicking with blood rushing through my veins. They had just kicked off and my dad sat down next to me with a comforting look and put his long, hairy arm over my shoulder. Trying to make me a little more at ease he said: “I’m praying for you buddy.”
The Jaguars were off to a hot start in the first half, with Bortles throwing two perfect touchdown passes to Marcedes Lewis, who seemed as big as the Laestrygonians, and
First off, Josh McCown was respectfully impressive even though he only played one possession. He looked composed in the pocket, knowing where and when to throw the ball. The veteran quarterback showed off his mobility, avoiding pressure to find Travis Benjamin in the end zone for a touchdown. McCown completed a perfect five for five passes for 33 yards giving the Browns a 7-0 lead.
Cornish threw a great pass for Gus Aiga to score the first try of the afternoon, and then were immediately gifted field position when the kickoff went out on the full.
The scent of the popcorn and hot dogs rolling around the stadium.I win the toss and select to defer, big game last week we got an easy win but this week won't be easy. This is another big game at 7:30 PM at Martin stadium for the five game home stretch. Third down and nineteen on Boise State's first possession Frankie Luvu comes out of nowhere and hits QB Brett Rypien and he fumbles and Robert Taylor recovers for a touchdown. “TOUCHDOWN COUGS speed D strikes again tick tick boom.” I hear coach Manning scream.
Thesis: The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) formula has been used to determine the top twenty-five teams in NCAA Division I college since 1998. Many think this system is inadequate and should be changed. The alternative is a playoff system that would give more of the top teams a chance to be named the NCAA football National Champion.
Imagine a world where The College Football Playoffs were so intense it would have everyone on their toes in excitement. It would brighten everyone's day to be able to come home and host a friendly party for these big games. Therefore College Football Playoffs are a very well-liked new system. The College Football Playoffs is a bracket of four teams to decide who is the best college football team. This system replaced a computer poll that pick the top two teams of college football and had them play together for the championship. The College Football Playoffs started in the 2014 season and has not been around for too long. It was Larry Culpeper's idea to put four teams into a bracket and play as if it was a tournament( Oster). This however has its weaknesses. Adding these extra post season games
I was not expecting this at all We’ve played 11 games in the pre-season now we’re in the playoffs. We got a buy in the first round. “Next week we’re playing cary it's at carys field” said my teammate. I told my teammate ‘’we could do this’’.
The parents came out of Grandma’s room by one by one, bags under their eyes, makeup running down their face, and bright red noses. By that time, I could almost predict what happened. As my mom and dad approached us with their heads down, I prepared myself to hear exactly what I never wanted to hear. “The doctors are turning off the life support machine. She isn’t suffering anymore, and she will be looking over every one of you guys. She said she loves you all so much,” Mom told us while my dad didn’t hide his tears back.
The other team, the Cougars, scored the first touchdown plus a field goal. We all were deflated, but in the second quarter our spirits were lifted when we scored our second touchdown of the game. It was 14-10 at half. Now, it was third quarter, and we were on the 14 yard line. It was second down. “Set 42… settttttt… HUTT!” shouted Mitch. I took off. I was supposed to do a slant, but instead I sprinted straight forward. I knew the guy guarding me was not as fast as I was; most people weren’t. So I told Mitch to pass to me no matter what, and he didn’t argue. Before I knew it, I was in the endzone. Finally, I did my slant. I cut across the endzone, while watching Mitch. He saw that I was open. Then the ball was in the air, spiraling towards me. I caught it. Now we were up 21-10. We were on our way to clutching the championship
It was a brisk fall evening, and my seventh grade youth football team and I had traveled to Aberdeen to play the undefeated Chiefs. We had worked harder and longer than we ever had that week to show that we were a threat in the league and ascend from our third place ranking. We knew it was not going to be easy; the Chiefs’ team had the fastest running back in our division, and they had scored more total points per game than any other team in the Southeast Idaho Youth Football League. The field was neater and greener than we had expected in this town. It was a great day for football, and I was with all of my best friends. I knew going in that it was going to be a learning experience whether we won or lost that night because the Chiefs were
We walked together to the field, the spikes on the bottom of my cleats clicking with each step on the parking lot pavement. A huge field with onlookers filling the bleachers on the far side came into view, lit up by the soft evening light. I spotted the girls on my team and my tired looking grey-haired coach. Me and my dad split up, me going to warm up with my team and my dad going to sit with the team parents. As I was passing with my teammates I watched the opposing team carefully. I observed how neat their drills were and how accurate their shots and passes were. They all looked so athletic and that really made me doubt myself. How was I supposed to prove to everyone that I was a good player if I had to play against a team this good? What if I mess up and the other team completely destroys my team? The loud buzzer that ended the warm ups sounded and both teams went to their side of the field. My coach called today’s starters out, and luckily he didn’t choose me. Relieved, I went to go sit on one of the hard metal chairs they provided for the teams on the sidelines. The chairs were uncomfortable but that didn’t bother me. I had other things on my mind. I sat shivering watching the events of the game
The third quarter was a blur. It was filled with some serious ups and downs. Including some defensive stops by both teams. Just when we thought we had the upper hand with a 95 yard touchdown pass to Joe, they would come back and score a 45 yard touchdown to take the lead back. It was a battle and we were losing.
We all sat around the table. Silence filled the room, until he finally shifted in his seat and cleared his throat. That was the only interaction in the last five minutes. Tension was building, and all I could do was sit still in my seat waiting for my father to finally break the tension that everyone in the room felt. He looked at every one of us and took in a deep breath, the only time I’ve ever seen my father’s demeanor this way was when he announced that my grandfather had passed away. He opened his mouth and words began to flow out one by one. I sat there speechless in denial as my father continued explaining the situation we were facing and how everything in our lives was going to change in the next two months. The only thing I could
My team the Battlefield Bobcats were never the underdogs going into a championship game. The clock was ticking down, there were only 12 minutes left in the game. My legs were tired, body aching, I was drenched in sweat and my team 's energy was nowhere to be found. Every pass my team would make would not be completed. It was either a sloppy pass due to exhausted legs or intercepted by the other team. My head was down with frustration and my spirit was broken. I wanted to just fall to the ground and crawl into the shade. I felt defeated.
There stood the final score 27-21, Vikings have done it, they are going to the Championship, again.Steelers stood quiet on the sideline while their opposing team were jumping up and down all across the field yelling and screaming and hugging each other in joy. Then you had my team, the now beaten Steelers who had just blew their Championship chance all because of me. I was only a sixth grader then and I was only playing in a little league, but felt terrible not in the mad way like an angry bull charging a fire red cape but disappointed like as if you had a chance to save the world and you decided to stay watch TV. As I was presented with a third place medal I wondered if I even deserved it had I not of fumbled the ball I would have a cheering team and a golden trophy in my hand but no, I had a bronze medal hanging from my neck.So from that day forth I decided I wasnt ever going to stop playing football and practicing football until my body couldn’t take it anymore.
I was supposed to go camping that evening, but little did I know that I was going to be spending the next three days in a hospital fearing for my brother’s life. This is my story about the scariest moment in my life, when my brother was on the edge of dying.
