In the cartoon by Stan Eales is the most honest yet terrible diction of an “innovated” world where pollution becomes the prosperity. In the foreground you have a tall building with 2 men standing on the top one being the suprised at what is happening and the owner who is smoke that doesn’t care what is going as long as he is making money . The background has a polluted sky with industries smoking everything up. The focus is the world is being populated and will soon be something common to us. The stereotype of this picture is that the world will be okay with pollution. The cartoonist stance is that Earth will be polluted and it is a bad thing because it will ruin everything for us. The cartoonist wants to correct this issue by reducing the
The word stereotype in the dictionary should include a picture of the fictional character Archie Bunker, from the 1970s sitcom titled “All in the Family.’ It is hard to find just one example of an episode that showcases the level this character will stoop to stereotype someone; however, I selected an episode titled, (Sammy’s Visit), that is considered one of the sitcoms finest.
Rather, we should focus on how the satire “outlines the unproductive nature of these groups in their discussions.” In this article, we see the anti-environmentalists talking about things that almost seem pleasant when commenting on the environmentalists’ agendas. For example, one of the criticisms is that the environmental laws will create more jobs. In a nation where many citizens fear that immigrants are taking the jobs of Americans, more jobs sounds like a good thing.
As The World Burns: 50 Simple Things You Can Do To Stay In Denial, by Derrick Jensen and Stephanie McMillan, is a graphic novel about the state of our environment. They use cartoons and abundant sarcasm to convey the message that the attempts people are making to save the environment are not enough to do any real good. Their message challenges both those of Edward O. Wilson and the University of Connecticut in that Jensen and McMillan’s ideas are much more radical and suggest that the ideas posed by Wilson and UConn, such as the importance of recycling and sustainability efforts, are ineffective at saving the environment. We must resolve the challenges posed by Jensen and McMillan so that all of the ideas put forth in the sources may work together rather than against each other. In order to do this we must accept that some of the ideas given by Jensen and McMillan may be too extreme to do any real good and that the ideas suggested by Wilson and UConn, though slightly ineffective, are nonetheless important steps in saving the environment. Taken alone, none of their ideas will save the environment; instead it is necessary to combine the ideas of Wilson, UConn, and Jensen and McMillan in order to create a more realistic plan to save the planet.
Stan Eales’ sarcastic tone emphasizes the acquisitive side of people by displaying a businessman referring to the smokestack emissions of factories as “the sweet fragrance of prosperity.” The cartoon specifically focuses on pollution caused by factories rather than cars. More importantly, it focuses on the ignorance of people allowing pollution to occur. Eales expresses his purpose by implementing a sense of irony with the text below the illustration that makes pollution appear favorable. The satirical aspect of the comic conveys how people selfishly disregard the harmful effects of something in order to gain money. The man in the cartoon could care less about how his factories affect the environment, as long as it’s beneficial towards him.
Eales’s Ingenious satire presents how humans treat pollution as if it were nothing with words like “black smoke” and “rancid”. The cartoon depicts how humans only care about the money and not realizing that pollution is a humongous problem to society. Furthermore, Pollution causes Global Warming causing glaciers to melt and cause problems. This society doesn’t seem to give enough attention to what pollution is doing to our beloved world. Additionally, Humans in our world just want to get money and become prosperous, but being prosperous and spreading pollution is going to demolish our atmosphere. The two businessmen are just watching the world become a horrendous place. On the top of the pinkish looking skyscraper, the man on the left looks
Imagine earth without forests, without wildlife, without an ocean to swim in. Dystopian worlds- worlds defined by suffering and hardship- often are classified as so because of their over reliance on a single person, object, or idea. The world in M.T. Anderson’s Feed is dystopian. Though this society has developed advanced technologies, the by-product of these innovations is extreme pollution. One example of this occurs in the state which the ocean has been brought to: “it was blue when the sun hit it one way and purple when the sun hit it another way, and sometimes yellow or green.
Have you ever wondered where majority of the air pollution comes from and how it’s caused since half of the population here in the San Joaquin Valley are affected due to the contamination of the air. Many people around the world question themselves of air pollution but don’t know where it comes from. It's noticeable for example pesticides, ozone levels rising, vehicle pollution, toxic waste burning, wildfires, and the list goes on. The San Joaquin Valley for many have been battling for better air quality but instead of getting better it seems to be getting worse. The air quality can contribute to dangerous health issues and environmental effects. We humans aren't the only ones who are suffering from these devastating chemicals being used on a daily basis. Humans in general, Environmental Protection Agency, or California have to find ways or solutions to limit the usage of any type of air pollution being spread all around the world. However, air pollution contributes to several health problems that can either be longer term effect or short term effect. Limiting the usage of ozone into the air will reduce the chance of new born children from suffering major effects that can later turn
Pollution has become an emerging issue in our contemporary society. The awful smell reeks of filth as it wraps itself around my body like the second skin. The particles invade my lungs and sting my eyes even if I squint into the city streets at Wichita downtown. They call it "smog," but truly it is a chemical soup that can only shorten our lives and exacerbate health issues. Whenever this happens, some walk-in face masks, others hide in homes with air filtration, but most of us can afford neither. We take food where we can get it and sleep fitfully amidst our own coughing. The old tale of a time when the air was so clean that trees and blossoms had a fragrance and the sky was blue like it is in the VR games advertised from all the electronic
The author begins the article by discussing the death percentage related to air pollution and what causes the elevated levels of air pollution. Huth continues the article by pointing out that different areas have different problems related to air pollution. Finally, Huth draws attention to the fact that different countries have different solutions to the air pollution. Though this piece was written for the entire United States, the fact that air pollution can be deadly to humans is universally applicable. Though Huth is a reporter and not an environmental scientist, Huth does cite reports made by credible institutions. Though this article talks only about how air pollution is deadly and does not expand the idea to talk about other health complications, the fact that air pollution is dangerous to human health does support my claim that a reduction in air pollution will lead to a better quality of
Moreover, it is not just up to the government to fight pollution. Individuals must also start taking action to fight against it. There are several action people can take, for instance, people can commute to work or school, or start using public transportation. Also, home energy has to be used wisely, in the neighborhoods, people has to form cleaning teams, give a second use to items they do not need, not just throw them away. Such actions will help people save money, and also they will keep a nice neighborhood.
Air pollution are impacting the environment, and it is imperative that laws are enforced to help build and sustain a better air quality. Air pollutants can be in the form of particulate matter which can be very harmful to our health. Stimulation to our eyes, nose, throat, and breathing infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia are all short-term effects. You’re head might hurt, you might want to puke, and you might have allergic reactions. Short-term air pollution can put people with asthma and emphysema in a worse condition. Long lasting breathing disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to your brains, nerves, livers, or kidneys are all long-term effects. If you’re exposed to air pollution continuously, it would affect children’s lungs and may complicate medical conditions for the elders. Some people argue and deny the bad air problem. They claim that pollution may actually be good for the Earth. The hazy weather caused by pollution has made plants far more productive when it comes to scrubbing greenhouse gasses out of the air. Pollution has turned plants into better carbon dioxide processing machines. But this is bad for our own health. Pollution is causing global warming which leads to massive ice land melting. Polar bears and other animals that live there are losing there habitats and even dying. Melting ice could also lead to more sea water which would bury some cities or land near the coastal areas. There is already a tremendous amount of people on this planet. If our land decreases, and our population continues to increase, some people would have to start living on another planet; therefore, making it a priority to address the areas
An example from the article said “ We could eliminate all of it we were serious,” McCown says “No children ought to be exposed to these kinds of toxins.”With all these factories we are trying to the pollutions before it cause an extreme global warming around the world, but many other factories owners are trying help us with these problem cause most of them don't even harm the community they benefits the community in a good way not in a bad way. See the environment people live in does impact them everyday. One last thing environmental racism is everywhere and you won't even know it. This is of reasons why most of the owner are fighting to help the world to stop global
Your day has been great so far. You went on vacation, you found a dollar bill on the floor, you ate your favorite dish, nothing can be better than this. As soon as you walk on the boardwalk you are hoping to see big waves and fish in the sea, instead, you see dead fish and some animals floating in the water next to old car tires, trash, and fertilizer. Now you feel terrible and want to go home. Pollution is devastating. The reason why I researched this topic is that I do not want my family nor my planet to get sick. Pollution can be stopped very easily, it’s just that people “don’t know” how to stop or they just don’t care, which is a serious problem. I want people to see that pollution is mainly caused by humans, and also for them to see that it is a horrible thing that is happening. Some kids litter because they see their parents and their whole family doing it. When I was researching this topic, I noticed that I needed to find out more information, so I asked questions to myself. When did pollution get so bad? How many animals have gone extinct because of pollution? How many people die each year because of pollution? How much does everyone on the planet pollute each year? What is the best way to stop pollution? Can just one person make a difference? After a lot of research, I found out lots of ways that we can stop pollution, so it is possible to end it. Or at least improve the air.
We live in a world that offers so many things to us. A home, food, water, life itself, yet we don 't take much care of it and are destroying it instead. The presence of pollution has been around for such a great amount of time now that you would expect us as humans, to start noticing the mass destruction we are causing and start doing something about it. Glaciers are melting, water levels are rising, the water and air around is being polluted if it 's not polluted already. There is little being done to try and stop or at least slow down this fatal event. If we do not start taking care of our own home, we will soon be left with no home at all, and the only one’s we can blame for that, is ourselves.
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue.
