I read the book Frozen in Time by Mitchell Zuckoff, it is a historical story that takes place during the time of World War II. It tells the story of plane crashes in Greenland's Ice Cap and the fate of the survivors. The book has many different perspectives that show how things are from different points of view and that there are many different sides to every story. The Arctic winter lasts 148 days, and these men must battle through it all to survive. The book is filled with an overabundant amount of adventure and mystery, it always has you asking yourself questions about what will happen next. This book has taught me that no matter how horrible the situation may seem you have to have confidence, and keep pushing. No matter what, you want to end your life being the best person you can, and you want to live as long as possible. The plane crews in the story were stranded in cold …show more content…
They had to become each other's family for many of them died together, but they helped each other till the last second. The sick, and the injured were cared for most but they all gave in their part to help each other. When the B- 17 crashes with nine men aboard, the United States Military tried a scary rescue operation that had never been done before that could have resulted in their own deaths. They were only able to save one person at a time. The first person they took was nearly dead and needed urgent medical care, they had to drag him on to their plane and even then this was very risky for them to leave the other eight men for many of them have severe frostbite. They never gave up on each other and had confidence in each other. The rescue crew were putting their lives in danger to save the stranded crew that they had never met. This proves that they had confidence in each other and never gave up even though they could have died in the
This was a difficulty for all who survived because losing so many friends who they had become so close with and the loss of their incredible commanding officer was not taken easily for these

A lot of people use very general ideas to make (and critique) “good” writing- when there are some slightly more specific things to look for. If you’re looking for an example of good writing, however, look no further. In the story, “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” by Walter Dean Myers, the author uses descriptive writing to develop a mood, and figurative language to develop characters.
They kept the trauma and images through everything. Many of the went back to loved ones, got married, had kids and lived to old age where they died from it. This is the good aftermath of facing war. Some soldiers couldn’t ever get over the trauma and how they watched other people constantly get killed. Many people tried to live their day like any else did but even the lightest noise could set them off which caused a lot of suicide’s to happen just from the trauma.
In order for the people to maintain a peaceful life, soldiers were “forced to leave families and villages for several years” (Document E). They soon fell into loneliness and boredom and wanted to return home but were not allowed. In addition, soldiers would “died from hunger, sickness, and extreme heart or cold” (Document E). Their families also struggled not knowing any information about them and whether or not they died. They lived their lives in peace, but also of lost.
Cormac McCarthy’s 2006 novel The Road is a story about how McCarthy believes the world will be after a disaster that kills millions of people. The book follows the lives of a man, known as Papa, and his son, known as the Boy. It is about their journey to find the other good guys, and how they survive in a world filled with starvation, pain, and death. In The Road, many people die. The two most important deaths are of the Boy’s Mother and Father. The two very different ways they die shows how death is accepted by various people and what they are feeling when they die. McCarthy uses death as a method of portraying how people felt about dying, and how it impacts the way that they are feeling when they die, and how it motivates them to live.
Right as the battle with the Taliban fighters initiated, they all knew they were outnumbered, outgunned and at a clear disadvantage but the idea of getting out of there alive did not abandon them. In their attempt to survive, they encountered many enemies as well as many obstacles in the battleground but they tried to never leave someone behind. The courageous acts portrayed in this movie were not only on their attempt to survive but also the responsibility and pressure they felt to save each other. Even when they knew they had lost a member of the team they tried to stay positive and in an act of despair from Michael Murphy who made the ultimate sacrifice to try to save the rest of his team even though only Marcus Luttrell survived. More than courage, these are acts of heroism that is excellently portrayed by this
I also like author’s message which stated, “you should always be careful of what you wish for”. I believe this because Robbie always wished to be a pilot and take part in the war but he never knew what the consequences might be to his actions. The book taught me some types of planes like the spitfire and the Lancaster which was pretty interesting. There were also exciting events like when Robbie tried to control a shot up plane in the middle of an ocean. I recommend this book to people who like to read about planes and mainly about history. They would enjoy it because it talks about types of planes in the historic times during World War 2. This book is an interesting book with many adventures and
This book is written by Gary Paulsen. It takes place in the Canadian wilderness, where Brian Robeson’s, who is 13 yrs. Old, plane crashes. Brian shows a lot of determination and strength, to be able to survive in the wilderness, with no one else.
Brian Robeson: Well Alejandro.. The reason why I survived it because of patience, and thinking. While I was there I thought "Patience. So much of this was patience - waiting, and thinking and doing things right. So much of all this, so much of all living was patience and thinking.” I always took self pity on myself, and I didn't do as much. I hated that. After the plane arrived, but I nearly attempted suicide.
The book I read is called ¨The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors: The Extraordinary World War II Story of the U.S. Navy's Finest Hour¨, written by James D. Hornfischer. This is a story about a very important battle during WW2, the battle itself lasted for two and a half hours. It was fought on october 25, 1944. This book was very suspenseful to read and kept me wanting more. It was very well written and described that i could almost imagine myself on the ship with the men during this long battle.
Peak physical shape and sharpness of mind were essential qualities for these heroes in the story. However, there was a little more to their character than what met the eye. These men had all the brute force in the world topped off with a touch of humanity. Humanity allowed them to put themselves in the shoes of the people trapped in the storm. They could then see the gravity of the situation and the importance of their role in their safety. But then again, many readers knew of the danger the crews were in and felt sorry and scared for them at the same time. But you wouldn’t catch them out there in the middle of the storm, like a PJ or a pilot, risking their neck for people they did not know. So there had to be another element inside these men in order to separate them from the rest of mankind. They had what some may call, a hint of insanity. They were not insane to take on the task; rather, they had to have a lack of care for their own safety in order to ensure the safety of others. Not many people would be willing to dive into such waters and risk their own lives such as Dave Moore did for the Satori. The perfect storm provided a perfect opportunity for heroes to submerge. Many ships’ crews were saved because of the humanity and heroism of these rescue teams. But for some ships, like the Andrea Gail, they were caught in the middle of an unforgiving storm and did not have a chance at being rescued. The
Jonathan’s pursuit of the perfect flight took everything from him. He lost his health, his family, his friends, and even his home. Although he struggled at times
Flying in a plane across an ocean into a different country gives a unique thrill to everyone, especially if it is their first time flying. For cancer patients Hazel Grace and Augustus “Gus” Waters in The Fault in our Stars by John Green, flying to Europe ends up as the most eventful trip they will ever take. Both teens suffer from cancer, and they both accept death wholeheartedly. Neither of them possess the ability to complete regular activities that all teens can do because their cancer places so many restrictions on them. Since flight symbolizes “freedom” or “running away,” Gus’ and Hazel’s trip can be seen as an escape from their life sucking disease, and get a taste of normal life.
Early in our nation's history, white settlement of the Americas began a long-standing tradition of misunderstanding and hostility between Native American tribes and United States society. Intercultural communication barriers lent themselves to assumptions and intolerance, which led to warfare, bloodshed, and the eventual destruction of an entire culture's traditional ways of life. Today, stereotypical representations of the "cowboys and Indians" of the 1800s continue to perpetuate hurtful misconceptions that further thwart attempts at understanding between the cultures. One motion picture, released almost two decades ago, served to demonstrate how a thoughtful, respectful approach across cultural boundaries might have resulted in a more
