In the seventh chapter of the novel, Oscar has met his foreshadowed fate: death which serves to show the ultimate sacrifice and consequent tragedy Oscar endures for love. The previous chapter ultimately foreshadowed these forthcoming events in that his death was purposely parallel to his beating. To begin, Oscar travel to the Dominican Republic one last time to woo Ybón over, something that could have been predicted by the previous chapter. Ybón knows it not safe for Oscar to be there because of her boyfriend and urges him to leave as does his family when they travel to retrieve him; he resists.
