The Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution, and Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists are all documents that helped to form this nation and were written by those who believed in freedom for all from the tyrannical rule under the king of England at that time. Both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution served specific purposes in how the government is run, and who can make the laws to govern us. The Declaration of Independence was written to declare the colonies intent to separate from England, declare themselves a sovereign nation, and listed the many complaints, unfair treatment and the abuse of power that the king of England was imposing upon the colonists.
