Theodore’s Early Life
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York on October 27, 1858. Theodore’s parents were Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch. The Roosevelt family owned a plate glass import business. When Theodore Roosevelt was a young boy, he was called “Teddie” by his family. He did not really like the name “Teddy” too much.
Much of his time was spent in his family’s handsome brownstone and he was homeschooled because of his asthma and illnesses. He had a chance to follow his passion which was animal life. This however, changed by his teen years. With encouragement from his father, Theodore Roosevelt developed a routine that included weight boxing and weightlifting.
After Theodore Roosevelt’s father died of stomach cancer while Theodore was in his second year of college at Harvard College, it pushed and caused him to work even harder than he has been. His father’s death changed the direction of his whole life. After he graduated from Manga Cum Laude in 1880, he ended up enrolling at Columbia Law School, where he ranked twenty-first in his class and then he got married to Alice Hathaway Lee from Massachusetts. Theodore Roosevelt became the governor of New York City before he later became the vice president.

Roosevelt considered running again in 1916, but instead he bowed out for Charles Evans Hughes. In 1914 when a war broke out in Europe, Roosevelt was upset that Wilson was standing neutral and criticized the president’s policy. When the U.S. declared war, Theodore asked for permission to take a volunteer division to France in World War 1. Wilson had the Secretary of War turn him down. Theodore was proud that all four of his sons had enlisted for service during World War 1, but he was heartbroken when his youngest, Quentin, was shot and killed in
