What Is Uncle Tom's Cabin

Decent Essays

The novel “Mightier than the Sword” by David Reynolds wasn’t a biography of Stowe and her struggles over slavery and abolition, but instead over her book “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” following an arc taken place over the span of two whole centuries from the day she was born to the present day. “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” was propaganda for abolition of slavery, but it was also an intellectual novel that merged the stories of un-forgettable characters. Not only was it a best seller, it also discusses the most controversial issue in the country; slavery. It was made to believe that the novel sparked a fire in its era and likely the next, changing the normal depiction of slave; it was the first novel that portrayed slaves as complex and emotional individuals.
