“Violent Protest Toward Police Brutality” Violence and bloodshed towards our own citizens just because of the color of their skin is our reality today and the result of so much chaos. Years of abuse without any peaceful solutions, have led to people thinking about how a violent protest could become one. In reality a peaceful protest is not enough to make your voice heard therefore, people get tired and take a stand to retaliate as one in what they believe in. Recently the only way to handle this brutality is to fight back with violent riots to grab enough public exposure from the media to create awareness.
Protesting has existed for decades as an option to get your voice heard. The problem is it cannot always be justify because of the occasional

“In 2013, Blacks and Hispanics in Chicago we’re four times more likely to be searched when stopped than a person of white skin ”. Police need to learn that people do have the right to reject the search, not only that but that there will not be any consequences if a person were to reject the search. If not, then the search would be against the constitution and consequences will be upheld toward the person enforcing the search. The people who are against me most likely never have to worry about these of situations or just don't care enough to do anything about it or are possibly manipulated by higher officials and believe that police are some sort of perfected form of high authority without any flaws. These methods were proven successful in a case where an 18-year-old male unarmed, was shot and killed by a police officer. After the shooting had occurred, “ groups like the New Black Panthers have vowed retaliation against the officer who shot the 18 year old whom claim it was murder”. For days, the chief of police would not let out the name of the officer who shot him but after several violent protests he came forward and told the public. Violent protest has been proven yet again to be much more …show more content…
It’s really the only way to have your voice heard and to discuss the issue and have more people try to create solutions. Maybe one day we will live in world where people feel protected around authorities not afraid, a world where people can freely drive a decent car without being pulled over just cause they look “suspicious”.

In reading an article upon the idealism of “stop and frisk” it said that “An analysis by the NYCLU revealed that innocent New Yorkers have been subjected to police stops and street interrogations more than 4 million times since 2002, and that black and Latino communities continue to be the overwhelming target of these tactics.” Showing how not only is it a waste of time but it brings fear upon people. I am here writing this letter to inform you upon your actions of ‘Stop and Frisk’ which gives the right to police officers to stop someone who they feel like is suspicious or looks suspicious. Which I think is just absurd, New York Polices forces should discard the injustice and distrust objective of “stop and frisk” to end the inflicting of people’s
There have been several arguments regarding protesting police violence. For decades, the constant battle of whether or not protesting is effective has been tarnishing our communities. Demanding change and different outcomes, citizens within the communities ban together in hopes of finding common ground. In doing so, it has unified minorities in the communities as well as brought partnership amongst them, forcing changes to be made.
As citizens of a country, the laws should account and be fair for everyone not just a select few. If a group is singled out, then they should have the right to stand up for their rights. Protesting is a powerful way to express a voice and opinion. So long as the protests are peaceful, there is no harm befalling the lawmakers and their peers and therefore no reason to outlaw protests. However it is essential for there to be enough movement and tension to create the booming voice of the people; the people speaking for their rights.
The purpose of our government is to serve its’ people, woe to the United States if they discourage their citizens of speaking up for their convictions. According to Henry David Thoreau their convictions are worth being heard, “The character inherent in the American people has done all that has been accomplished; and it would have done somewhat more, if the government had not sometimes got in its way”. Ultimately, real change and progression is made at the hands of the common man. It is utterly important to remember where the power should lie and peaceful protest is a tool for providing that
The issue with Stop, Question, and Frisk is that is causes Police Officers and other law officials to look at specific people in a certain way because they assume that they are doing something illegal. It has become a huge racial issue, people believe that Stop and Frisk is breaking their basic rights and is unconstitutional. It is breaking their basic rights because it’s invading people’s privacy and makes them feel violated. It especially feels that way for women because they are being frisked in the middle of a street or public area by a male officer. Many people may claim that, “This has resulted in policing that undermines public safety and trust including biased stop-and-frisk abuses, unconstitutional searches, racially disparate marijuana arrests and summonses, discriminatory profiling and harassment, and the use of excessive force”. Especially after the increase in police shootings and riots, people don’t feel safe anymore because they never know if an officer will just randomly stop them and get aggressive. This fear of being harassed or even worst being shot/kill like all of the other people that they have seen all over social media and in the news.
Although studies show that black and Latinos tend to be stopped more often by law enforcement, statistics showing that black and Latinos commit a higher rate of crime is often ignored by those who believe racial profiling is a common act for police officers. Those whose arguments are based on the statistic that black and Latinos are stopped a greater amount of time than white people overlook that “In 2005, for instance, blacks were nearly seven times more likely to be in prison than whites” (Chapman, “The Racial Profiling Myth Lives On”). It makes sense for police officers to stop black and Latino men more often based on statistics. Since there is evidence that black and Latino men have committed more crime, police officers are simply doing their job by taking necessary steps to succeed in one of their core goals: reduce crime — it does not mean that all police officers systematically engage in racial profiling. In the article, “‘Stop and Frisk’ Is Not Racial Profiling”, Bloomberg quotes a black Brooklyn detective, ‘Stop-and-frisk is never about race. It’s about behavior.’ Police officers are not at fault for the amount of blacks and Latinos who commit crimes; it is a police officer’s job to question suspicious behavior. However, police officers should only be able to stop and frisk someone if they are wary about certain behaviors or if the person has similar
Some will say that body cameras are invading their privacy and they are causing bigger issues, but the statistics show a drop in complaints over the past few years because body cameras are making a big improvement in today’s world. Body-worn cameras are going to continue to be used by police officer’s and they are going to continue to make big improvements. All people who are being recorded should feel safe and comfortable while being on camera and that’s what the police are aiming for. As of right now in the year 2017, body cameras are going to remain on police officer’s and resolve all the issues that are
I've recently read you are planning to give the school district new life in the city of philadelphia, this is great news to hear still being in school district myself. It's easy to see that you are a ‘’for the people person’’ who we as philadelphians are lucky to have and stand behind someone who listens to us not as burdens but as people. With that being said, there is something that negatively impacts most philadelphians on daily bases that must change. The stop and frisk law we have is a complete violation of are right as people. This way of pursuing crime is extremely time wasting and the only solution is that it either should be stopped or it should be reduced in black areas especially if they are unproductive. This type of search
Who decided to make a riot one day? Why did they think violence should be the answer? When it comes down to the people getting our voice heard, brutality should not have been a thought that came to mind. Riots are irrelevant because of how innocent people are victimized when they aren’t the ones causing the unfair treatment in our society. I wonder why individuals go against their own people when it’s the ones who are in charge of decision making who we should be angry with. I think that’s exactly what the government wants us to do, go against each other so they could throw us in prison and make billions of dollars off of us. If the people knew what they were doing to themselves I guarantee they would put an end to it.
Protesting is a way of speaking up and letting your voice be heard, it’s also a way of showing disapproval or objection to something. There are many type of protest like speeches, marches, boycott, songs, and much more ways to get united and protest. Protesting is important because things that might be fair to one half is not fair to the other half and gathering together to speak up, sometimes most famous protest include famous individuals like songwriters, poets, speeches, and/or boycott. The question is, why is protesting important?, well imagine that one day we wake up having a president that want to unfairly take half of your check to pay the taxes he haven’t paid for years, very upsetting right?, that's where protesters come in, commonly
Although Protesting is usually defined as a childish, or disrespectful act a better definition would be to say it is a vital part to a democracy. A thin line is drawn between the two definitions. People will tend to say protesting is disrespectful because you are rebelling against those who “provide and protect you”. Others will say it is the wrongful act of being childish because you are fighting someone of an authority figure because you are not getting something you want. While people actually protest to receive something that them or those around them need. However these two definitions are inaccurate because protesting plays a vital part in a democracy. This is true because protesting has made America the amazing country it is today because of “rebellious” protesting. One prime example of this is the War of Independence more commonly known as the American Revolution. Another example of how protesting plays a crucial part in a democracy was the Boston Tea Party.
Over 150, 000 people have signed an online petition on the white house web page to have every police agency use body cameras. (Griggs, 2015)
In a protest you cannot say it has to be either violent or non-violent, because they are not every protest is about the same thing or trying to get the same point across and not the same people are taking care or taking part in these protests. Not every protest has to be violent some will have a better outcome if it is done in a non-violent way. On the other hand there are so many protests that got their point across only by using violence. In some cases it might be better for the violent side of a protest to show up.
Seems like everywhere you look nowadays there is a different protest going on somewhere. They range from anywhere to gay rights and #BlackLivesMatter to this small protest about new born puppies I heard on the news the other day. They all seem to have that one common interest in mind, change. How some protest groups “protest” is a different story though. Many protest groups today choose violent protest over peaceful protest. In today’s world, it may seem like violent protest is more attentive and a quicker way for change, but the truth is that they set a poor example for everyone, creates a lust for power, and causes unnecessary tax money spending, so the violence causes more bad then good.
At the heart of every protest there are grievances, such as inequality, feelings of relative deprivation, or injustice. A protest is an objection by words or by actions to particular events, policies, or situations. Protesters can publicly make their opinions be heard or take direct action to make changes. Research suggests that feeling part of a group which you distinguish as deprived is particularly important for engagement in protest. If you’ve ever sacrificed your Saturday to attend a political rally or protest, you’ve probably wondered if your effort really made a difference. There have been many worldwide issues that have led to protesting. Protests throughout history have had major influence on changing political structure, for example, The Boston Tea Party, French Revolution, Vietnam anti-war protests, and Civil Rights marches are just a few that come to mind. The effectiveness of protests depends on the subject of the protest and the manner in which it is conducted. Well-organized, nonviolent protests effect change by keeping issues in front of the public and building public sympathy for the cause and was very effective for the civil rights movements. The cause has to be considered significant by mostly all of the general public for a strong turnout and to be somewhat effective. Organized protests which end in violence or public disorder can do harm to the cause, even if the protesters instigate the violence or if they just respond to it. Protesters lose their
