National Journal’s annual Washington in the Information Age (WIA) research provides an exclusive, in-depth look at how Washington Insiders consume media today, the roles different channels play in their day-to-day policy work, and how these roles are anticipated to change in the future. WIA measures responses among about 1,200 Washington Insiders from Capitol Hill (13%), federal agencies (34%), and the private sector, which includes NGO’s, lobbyists, communications experts, etc. (53%). In addition: • 27% are Gen X, 41% are Boomers, 15% are Millenials, 17% are over 65 • 25% are Republican, 39% are Democrats, 20% are Independents, and the remainder (16%) preferred not to answer. They do not tend to rely on online video and negative sentiment there is increasing. Reliability is down from 22% in 2016 to 15% in 2017.
