Each situation required me to phrase my requests a little differently based on who I was asking. For example, my friend and I often go to Starbucks together not only to buy coffee but also to sit down, chat, and relax. When I asked her initially to buy my coffee for me, she responded with a quick “no” not giving me much time to explain and assuming that I was just joking. However, I retorted with explaining that because our “coffee dates” are so frequent, I was hoping that if she covered for me this time, I would pay for her coffee next time. I also told her that I was not planning on buying the most expensive thing on the menu just because I was assuming she would pay for me. I would keep my order reasonable and hoped she would do the same when I treated her next time. Clarifying what buying coffee for me actually meant and explaining the benefits of what I could give her in return made it much easier for her to reconsider and say “yes.” I structured my request to my parents a lot differently because instead of asking for something simple like a cup of coffee, I asked them to consider buying me my own car, despite already sharing one with my sister. I began my request by listing the reasons why I need my own car out here on campus. I told them that I often find myself confined to campus on weekends and have been feeling limited to when I can go get groceries or go out to eat at a restaurant with friends. I explained that having a car would not only help me, but I could
Be clear on need. Ask for response to show understanding by receiver. Give opportunity for questions as needed.
I viewed a video called "Your brain on coffee", put out by a channel called AsapSCIENCE, this video was about how the caffeine in coffee impacts your brain. The video was well produced, the creators used moving visuals to capture the attention of young adults, which is most likely the intended audience. Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown, degree-holding scientists and the creators of the content in question, use their credibility to validate the information they have given. The video is factual, containing need to know information about the effects of caffeine; this steers my project in a certain direction. They say things like "Ultimately the more adenosine there is the more tired your brain feels...the caffeine in your coffee is incredibly similar to adenosine", which is a scientific approach. This simply is stating that adenosine and caffeine are similar in structure, but while adenosine makes you tired throughout the day, caffeine eliminates that effect by taking adenosine's place in the body.
It has always been difficult for me to ask others for money, I work two jobs to pay for my own gas and for going out with friends so that I don’t have to ask my parents for money. But looking at the current cost of attending college, I’m not sure that will be an option. My parents have made it their goal to prepare me for life in the real world and to give me every opportunity to succeed when I start making my own decisions; part of that preparation is sending me off to college. My parents are helping me pay for a four-year degree at the college of my choice: Texas Tech University to major in Industrial Engineering, but that does not mean that all the work is said and done. My parents want to pay for my college, but this will not be easy. Our family lives very well in a good house in a good city because my Dad learned to manage money growing up in a house of 5 kids
My parents are always leaving me at a stalemate. I’m involved in ASB activities and sports that demand most of my time. During the week, my mom is driving me back and forth to school several times a day. She also takes me to my practices and games every weekend. However, each ride is accompanied with complaints about how often I’m required to go to school for my extracurriculars. With a questioning glance, she asks, “Do you really need to go to practice today?” I then immediately retort, “Well duh. If you were listening, you would’ve realized that I’ve told you it’s mandatory a hundred damn times.” Or at least I wish I could say that. Instead, I respond with a lame “sorry for causing you trouble.” Times like these make me wonder why I was encouraged to get involved in extracurricular activities in the first place. Surely she must have realized that I’m not going to drive myself to these places? After all, I can’t even drive. Which is another thing that pisses me off. My parents constantly complain about giving rides to me, even though they know that it’s unavoidable. I’m nearly sixteen years old and I spend a lot of time outside and yet, that’s still not enough for them. I could have received my driver’s permit by now, but my parents claim that it’s unnecessary. Unnecessary my ass. Complaints and a reluctant tone tell me otherwise. These type of complaints make me reconsider starting a community service club. I want to benefit others, but it’s obviously not
In the historical fiction novel The Various Flavours of Coffee, there are many elements which are used for artistic inspiration, such as the romance between the characters and topics such as suffragism and the labor movement which the novel explores, and aspects which are ignored and downplayed by the writer, such as the role of coffee and the coffee trade itself. While coffee is the driving force which helps to move the story forward and bring the characters together, many elements of the story are used for artistic inspiration, such as the romance between Robert and Emily, and Robert and Fikre. In addition, while not directly relating to coffee or the history of coffee, the story explores major events at this time in history such as suffragism
Growing up as the baby of the family, I have always been perceived as incapable; however, over the years I have fought back this stereotype by becoming extremely independent, which has resulted in me despising the fact that I am still financially dependent on my parents. Therefore, I cannot help but cringe every time I ask my parents for money, which is partly because I know every extra dollar is a strain due to expenses rising and their incomes remaining constant.
It was a normal tuesday night. I had just gotten out of the shower when my phone started buzzing it was an unknown number but it looked familiar so i just thought it was a friend whose contact I accidentally deleted. I ignored it i had to finish my chem homework before i could let my phone distract me and lead to me not finishing my chem. Stupid polyatomic ions I said to myself while writing down the formula to ammonium NH4+. As i finished my Chem homework my phone buzzed again it was another message from the same number this time i decided to answer, the messages read “ Hey what time am I picking you up tomorrow for coffee ?” “Are you there?” I didn't remember making plans but i love coffee so maybe one of my friends was trying to be nice
In this essay for a privilege for my parents is that for my birthday when I turn 16-19 years old to get a neon green jeep. I’m not asking much but my own car is much easier than you guys drive me where I have to go. Sometimes when dad is at work he doesn’t get home until 8ish and if we need food I can go get it for us. I want to drive to places that I never been before and didn’t have the chance to do it. And I know that you guys don’t want me to grow up because I’m the littlest in the family, but we all have to grow up someday.
The National Coffee Association found that the average coffee consumption in the United States is 2.96 cups of coffee per day in 2016 (NCA Coffee Drinking Trends Survey, 2016). According to the report, daily consumption of espresso-based beverages has nearly tripled since 2008 (NCA Coffee Drinking Trends Survey, 2016). Therefore, people hang out mostly in coffee shops, where they can enjoy their time with a fresh coffee. Indeed, coffee shops are not only serving coffee recipes, but also give a unique space to different customers, like meeting point, living room, and remote office. A city’s coffee shop culture is also an insight into the way that city lives. A lot of
Coffee husk and coffee pulp are coffee processing by-products. Coffee husk is obtained when harvested coffee is processed by the dry method, and coffee pulp is produced by the wet method. Coffee is usually processed by the dry method; therefore an expressive amount of husk is obtained every year. Some of the husk is used as organic fertilizer but, other applications are very limited, mainly because it is a bulky product. The presence of tannins and caffeine diminish acceptability and palatability of husk by animals.
Caramel macchiato: Steamed milk with vanilla-flavoured syrup, marked with espresso and topped with caramel sauce.
As I said a few months ago, I am passionate about coffee , both when it comes to tasting it and knowing different varieties and experimenting with recipes and uses in the kitchen. So when a reader asked how I could make her own cinnamon coffee, I dedicated myself to investigate a little on the subject of giving a special flavor to this drink. And the truth is that there are many ways we can aromatize our coffee .
Lately, coffee has been in all its glory. Being more popular than ever, with pumpkin spice lattes, morning coffee runs, and debates on which shop offers the best cup of coffee. No one ever seems to gain interest in how coffee was discovered, who discovered it, who invented coffee machines, and how those were invented. There is no limit to the history behind all these questions. Coffee has been around for centuries, and has changed history to say the least.
Drinking coffee is a natural habit for any Italian person. Coffee is a strong part of our culture, and we used to drink it since we were little more than children. Usually for Italians coffee is more than something to drink because it’s an important moment in our everyday routine. In fact, we take it several times a day, even though we know that this is an unhealthy habit. This is probably the reason why we don’t see another type of coffee preparations like real coffee. Italian coffee generally called espresso, is simply the coffee, and it is better than the drip coffee because of its natural and strong taste and the fact that it contains less caffeine (“Caffeine”).
This reading was relatable, and it contains intriguing stories. It was relatable because as humans, we are guilty of cognitive dissonance and we try to reduce the dissonance to feel safe about our actions or beliefs. Personally, I go through cognitive dissonance many times in my daily routine. My life consists of working out daily, eating healthy, and caring for my three children, but like every human being I have a bad habit. Coffee is my life, and every morning I go through this process where I don’t know if I should drink a cup or not. I know the consequences of drinking coffee I get bad migraines after a cup and get jittery. Then I justify my behavior by telling myself that I don’t drink coffee every day and it’s not all bad theirs benefits to it that keeps me awake to get everything done. I have not yet resolved this, but I do feel guilty after a cup of coffee. The story that captivated me was the doomsday cult that Leon Festinger studied. The people in this community had strong beliefs that the world would end by a great flood. These people literally left their possession’s, jobs, and just in general their life all because of this prophecy. When the leader and her followers realized that the prophecy failed, they didn’t accept their mistake instead they justified. The followers believed the reason they were apparently spared was because of their strong faith and prayers. The followers were so gullible to believe that a UFO would pick them up and somehow they stood
