This semester I have become exceptional at writing strong and clear thesis statements. I have learned that you have a good thesis statement when it clearly and specifically expresses your opinion of the matter and helps control the ideas in the paper. Good thesis statements are what helps build a paper. In my first paper, my thesis statement was weak and unclear. It says, “The man of nature is good.” It was clear, but it did not have support to back the statement up. Indeed, I have improved very much in writing my thesis statement. My next thesis statement supported my idea and backed it up. It said, “The war in Afghanistan performed by the American military is considered a “just war.” This is considered a “just war,” because the United States government ordered the attack, the al-Qaeda attacked the United States first, and most people had the right intention when fighting.” It helped me control the central idea for the rest of my paper. Writing a clear thesis statement is key to a clear

The elements of a thesis are generally stated in a single sentence. A topic is not covered in a thesis, but opinions are expressed. A thesis indicates that there is support to follow, and often organizes supporting material. Effective thesis statements are precisely worded to draw in the audience. The location of a thesis is very important because if it appears at the opening of the essay, it starts the essay off with a strong statement providing clear direction and an outline of the supporting evidence. If a thesis statement appears in the middle it allows the writer to introduce the subject and guide the reader into accepting a thesis that is explained, as well as defended. The thesis being presented at the end allows the writer to close the thesis with a strong statement. The types of evidence that can be used in a thesis vary from personal observations to statistics. Evidence should support a
What all is a demonstrated when an argument essay is being written? A writer, when discussing a good argument, will use four important sections. They are the introduction, the presentation of the writer’s position, the summary and critique of alternative views, and finally the conclusion (Ramage, Bean, & Johnson, 2012). The concept of an argumentative essay is to take and defend a clear stand given a topic or circumstance. When writing an argumentative essay, the author should have considerable knowledge of the topic and have accredited research to support and defend the position taken by the author. In high school, students were required to write based off of prompts and answer the question with evidence given by teachers. The essay prompts were clearly written and the papers were usually no more than three pages with only two exceptions in my high school career. Essays and papers were given to let students involve themselves with a certain topic, mostly by means of books read. Only once in high school was I given the opportunity to write an argumentative essay on a topic of my choice. Papers that I turned in followed the standard paper writing procedure with the thesis and introduction in the first paragraph, then followed by body paragraphs, and then ending with a concluding paragraph stating my side or my view on the topic at hand.

I chose the argument about law enforcement because it is important to me. I decided to argue that MOST cops are crooked cops. I went on the internet to find more information than I already. First, I looked up police officers main duties. I disagreed with those right off the bat. The main duties I found are responsibilities that cops should uphold, but most do not. After I chose the three I wanted I put them in my thesis statement. Once I had my thesis statement I had to think of a creative beginning paragraph, to place it in. I wanted something creative to reflect how the rest of my essay will be or what the rest of my essay will be talking about. I had to find transitional words or introductory phrases to make my paragraphs follow each smoothly.
