What Makes Beowulf An Epic Hero

Beowulf, a record of Anglo-Saxon history, is a British literature story that includes the people called the Geats and the land of the Danish. The Geats is the homeland of Beowulf and is where he became a warrior. He, unlike other warriors, had extra qualities and heroic characteristics that helped him achieve glory.
The extra qualities and heroic characteristics is what made him an epic hero and what made this storyline epic. He contained qualities and characteristics such as, unworldly strength, courage, loyalty, courtesy, pride, and the ability to rule fairly. The first time his qualities and characteristics were shown was when he went to the land of the Danes. He headed there in order to save the people from a terror that had reigned over their land for twelve years, Grendel. Twelve years too long had Grendel terrorized the people. Beowulf went into the battle wielding no weapons and fought the monster bare hands to mighty claws. He won the fight and took Grendel's claws as a trophy. This fight and death is the cause of the next battle he undergoes; Grendel’s mother when she seeks revenge. This battle continues to show his traits as he travels to her layer, dives into the depths of the lake, and slays her with a sword found at the bottom. After completing both of these quests she went back to the King of the Danish, both times with pride, to receive his treasures and earning for slaying the monsters of their land. Once he had received his treasures he loyally went back home and gave all of his earnings to his King, Hygelac. Not long after, King Hygelac went to battle and died fighting.
