What Makes a Good Manager?

I have had a total of 6 managers over the course of 21 years. By now I have a very solid idea of which qualities a good manager should possess. I have run from one extreme to the other, my worst manager was fired for stealing, and my best manager has been promoted 4 times since I last worked there, and is an outstanding asset to the company. The basic understanding that a manager needs to have is an objective view. This is extremely difficult to do as emotions cloud our every thought and action. It is possible, and the result is employees that all feel that they are treated equally. Why can 't they just be nice and act like everyone else, relate to them and cry with them, whatever fits the situation. Communication skills are another valid area where managers could improve from my experience. In the past it was very common to be told a day or two in advance that I would be coming in early the next day. This is very frustrating, this is the worst case that I have experienced, but things such as the topics covered at manager 's meetings, employees would benefit quite a bit if they were provided with this information. When it comes down to basics the most important thing for a manager to keep in mind is the fact that they are human along with all of their coworkers. They are no better than anyone else in the office, and neither is anyone better than they are. Also everyone is human, we all make mistakes, so be understanding, not mad and try to find a way to eliminate the error instead of fumigating about it for an hour.
