In the early years of education students were punished for things such as writing left-handed and speaking a language other than English in the class room. In the years since then there have been many changes and advances in the field of education. These changes include everything from how to treat students in the classroom, to what to teach students, and which students were deemed fit to be educated. Another area, in which this profession has undertaken growth and development, is the qualities that teacher need to possess in order for them to become more effective in the education of their students. Maurer. With this knowledge teachers will be able to fully inform students about the topic and allow the student to be able to create an informed opinion of their own. This also allows students to place themselves on the front lines of their education, not trailing behind with old or even incorrect information. For me, in the Industrial Technology Education field, this also means that the students in my class will be better prepared for the challenges that lay ahead of them in industrial fields or trade school with the most current methods in use in their specific area. During the interview, with Dr. Maurer, she also said that it is the responsibility of the teacher to gain the knowledge in order to teach the subject matter, but if the teacher is unable to inform the students than the teacher is essentially ineffective. Teaching is not just about preaching to students and expecting them to memorize and regurgitate the information they are being given on a daily basis. Dr. Maurer believes that teachers need to ask quality questions to their students because not all students learn during class discussion. She went on to say that the teacher has to teach to the student’s way of learning, because the students are not going to learn according to how the teacher wants to teach. With today’s changing world and the economy the way it is, it is not uncommon for people of all ages to enter the college setting. In fact, two-thirds of students entering the college setting are classified non-traditional (Brown, 2007). Bill (2003) found that there was an 11% increase of non-traditional student enrollment from 1991-1998 displaying 35% in 91 and 46% in 1998. These numbers have since increased according to Jacobson & Harris (2008) showing that half to 75% of undergraduates consist of the non-traditional student sitting the reasons for reentering the college setting to be economic. What exactly defines a non-traditional student and what services may they need in comparison to the traditional student.
There are many characteristics that are necessary for teachers to have. First, it’s important for teachers to be vastly knowledgeable about their subject matter. Teachers need to be enthusiastic about whatever they are teaching, especially if they want to sustain students' interest. If the teacher isn't interested in the subject, why should the students? In the United States, modern day education seems to expect students to know material before the material is even provided and taught. The future of America depends on education. The brain is adapting and storing all of the great information being taught in the first quarter of someone 's life. I am a strong believer that no matter what the material if the teacher is entertaining and lively, students will enjoy the topic more. In today 's society students are distracted with all kinds of technology; teachers are competing for students attention. That is why I think it is imperative to provide the students with teachers that interact with students, genuinely enjoy teaching and want their students to succeed. Students are often stuck with many boring teachers who read out of the book and expect the students to regurgitate the information on an assessment. This could be beneficial for some students, but others need interaction, pictures, and aid from the teacher, even possibly some instilled confidence.

This past semesters has been an eye opening experience that has changed my views on teacher. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a fourth grade teacher. However after being placed in a second grade classroom my views have changed. I liked the idea of teaching fourth grade because my fourth grade teacher was my inspiration in life. When I was in Ms. Petro’s class I enjoyed being able to watch the students progress over time. Being able to see the drastic improvements in little children is very rewarding and that is why I want to continue to teach lower grades. I have learned that being a teacher requires a special someone, a person who knows that sometimes you will have to deal with tough situations leaving you exhausted and feeling like you are not able to help more. But at the same time, being a teacher allows one to be a visionary for the world and those who surround you.
Another point that makes a good teacher would be his/her patience. Teachers should not get upset or even worse, give up on the students who are not so strong in their studies. Instead, they should have the patience to slowly coach them, give them extra lessons, and find different ways to encourage them. Let them know that the teacher
Teaching is a profession that is considered to be a rewarding challenging and complex role. An effective teacher does not simply teach knowledge their students and instead aims to arm students with the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that will prepare students for life-long learning. The constructivist theories developed by Piaget and Vygotsky have impacted on the way that teachers teach and this has changed the approach of teaching to place a greater importance on the teacher instead to act as a facilitator of learning in an open, constructivist environment and providing students with the tools to challenge themselves to develop both academically and personally. After this Mr Braithwaite spoke to his class the next morning. He told them of his teaching intentions and what they could expect and also what he expected of them. He told them of certain courtesies which he would expect. After this Mr Braithwaite found teaching easier. In the pupils' weekly review, he had made more of an impression. The pupils wrote how they thought some of the courtesies Mr Braithwaite had implemented were stupid, but they also wrote how they were glad that he treated them like adults.
I consider and know that children are the future of our world; we have to know how to teach and educate them adequately so they could be prepared to lead future generations. I consider that each child has its own way of learning; there are multiple ways in which a person could be intelligent and capable of completing tasks. I want to be able to help children with everything they need. I want to motivate them to do and be the best in every task and area, everything that they dream and think about, to persuade their dreams and never give up no matter how hard they think it is or how difficult becomes trough the way. I don’t want to be the type of teacher that goes through the school year teaching what I have to and limit my capabilities to show them things and lessons useful for their lives, I want every child that goes to my classroom, leave it at the end of the year with instructions or lessons that make them better persons. Additionally, think that it’s important to have a good balance between discipline and kindness with students, it’s important to have a good relationship with the students because in that way is easier to communicate with them; if they have any problems or trouble learning a lesson or something in the content, if they have a good communication and relationship with you, it will be easier for them to tell you about what is causing them trouble. In some cases, when the educator is strong and teaches with hard discipline, the students tend to evade them and
