If I were asked what my favorite movie was I would have to ponder that question for a while. In my early life, my parents owned a movie rental place. This was during the eighties and nineties and it operated similar to Blockbuster. This is one of the main reasons I have a diverse knowledge and appreciation for all kinds of films and that’s what makes this question even more difficult. However, one of the movies I would consider the best is Seven – a film proving that the seven deadly sins are just a collection of mere emotions. The ability to control them, or in some instances not being able to control them, is what makes us human. Seven is a mystery thriller directed by David Fincher. It stars Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey. The story is about two detectives, Freeman and Pitt, who are working with each other for the first time. Freeman, an older ready to retire detective, is being paired up with Pitt, a young run and gun detective. These two men are eventually given the task of trying to catch a serial killer loose in the streets of New York City, played by Kevin Spacey. Spacey uses the seven deadly sins as an outline to find and torture his victims. Although seemingly cliché at first, with the old cop meets rookie cop beginning storyline, what sets this film from other noir detective films is the way the killer picks its victims. Spacey stalks and kills his victims according to what he believes are society’s violation of the seven deadly sins.
American Psycho is an incredible film with an even more brilliant cast; Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, and Reese Witherspoon, to name a few. When the scene opens, you see Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) going about a normal healthy life as a wealthy investment banker. But then you start to see the secret life he is leading as a serial killer. When he and his friends flaunt their business cards to each other, he gets jealous of coworker Paul Allen’s (Jarod Leto) card, he murders a homeless man and his dog out of rage. Bateman went to a Christmas party and was mistaken by Allen for another
The movie I chose was P.S. I Love You. To begin with, I chose this movie because I have not seen it yet, but I have heard from my friends that it was a movie that I cannot miss out on. Reading the captions of the movies, it seemed very interesting and as soon as I was done with the movie, I gladly found it interesting. P.S. I love you had a unique plot compared to other love movies, after reading the synopsis I could automatically relate this movie with Chapter one on “Myth of the right one”.
I included Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because it's my favorite out of the entire series, both book and movie. Harry Potter was such a huge part of my life while I was growing up. It was this universal cultural phenomenon that I was so excited to be part of. I grew up reading the series and being so excited every time the next movie or the next book came out and I sorely regret not attending a Harry Potter premiere when I had the chance.
I love movies. For as long as I can remember, I’ve harvested a passionate, slightly embarrassing obsession with film. The way in which cinema can paint such vivid and beautiful moving images, portray moving stories containing a wide range of emotion and narrative threads, leaving a long-term impact on the viewer, all within a runtime of two hours or so, captured my fascination at an early age. This fascination continues to this day. While I cannot state for certain the first film I ever watched (My parents seem to think it was either Disney’s animated princess flick Mulan or The Phantom Menace, the first film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy), I can most definitely remember the first film that left a lasting impression on my youthful mind, in addition to inspiring me until this day.
One of my favorite movies would be Teen Beach 2 by Robert Horn. I like this movie because it shows that no matter who you are you can do anything. Also, I like that there is friends that people can look up to who won’t bring them down. Then, I like the little things of romance in the movie. What makes this movie better than other movies is in my opinion the music and the dances that make the movie interesting and you can sing along with the people singing. All good movies to me have music in them with dancing and they have a little bit of romance in them to. That’s what makes them a good quality movie to me.
The most memorable movies have the most adventures within the plot. The movie Real Steel has a plot that is unordinary to most. This plot is set into the future, it includes robot fighting arenas and ways people gamble in the future years. This is a very interesting movie because when thinking about the future robot fighting is not something that comes to mind. So seeing this as a way of the future is exciting. The Blind Side has so many different components within it so there is never a dull moment. Some things that it includes is family issues, school problems, and inequality, this is something that many people can relate to so it is compelling for them. Another movie is Finding Dory with many adventures and journeys within it. By going through the journey to find Dory's family and get connected back to her roots. This is a thrilling movie because between all the adventures there is always something happening and the moral of the movie tells a whole other story. Adventures, excitement, tragedy, and fulfillment are all characteristics a well written plot should have for the best
After watching the movie "Citizen Kane" I realized why this movie was named one of the best films ever. Yellow journalism was in an era from the 1880 to the 1900 and it featured flashy journalism of that time, which made editors write about invented stories. Which went to big headlines on subjects that weren't true. The two big writers of that time were William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer. During the film Kane is depicted as a yellow journalism at different times.
While one is reading a book or watching a movie, it is very easy to pick up things that might make a viewer’s relate to the themes. Most of these are made not just to entertain the audience, but also to interact with their emotions and help them to relate to the work. There are tons of different examples of books or movies that people can relate to, but there will never be just one that everyone agrees on. Three books or movies that affected me greatly are Brave New World, Harry Potter, and The Blind Side.
Blade runner a 1982 noir science fiction film which in my opinion is one of my top ten sci-fi movies that I’ve watched with it’s astonishing effects that immediately catch the attention of the viewer and combined with the direction of the famous Ridley Scott it manages to bring a new point of view to the book where it was based from.
Film can have many different interpretations. It can be taken as simple popcorn entertainment that breaks box office records. Or, it can have a powerful moral or message it wants to convey, and have the audience form their own opinions and thoughts. One film that had an impact on me is the film Blackfish. The film gave me opinions on animal cruelty, corporate corruption, and manipulative marketing. All of which are ruining today's society, and had me questioning about what it means to live in a world where these insufferably cruel acts are taken place in a tourist heavy attraction.
Growing up my favorite movie of all time was the Wizard of Oz, and to this day I could watch it over and over again. I enjoy watching fantasies on our list such as beauty and the beast, supernatural, and the hulk. To me these movies and shows are a way to make myself, and others feel as though the characters can relate to all of our lives somehow. They make us feel as though we are not alone. And someone else is dealing with the same situation which makes me connect with them. Even if it is just for an hour or two it’s enough time to escape from my own word, and get lost in theirs. Whether it’s falling in love, hunting demons, ghosts, and monsters, or even being a giant green super hero .If you look deeper you’ll find a message behind each
Citizen Kane is a movie about the ‘American dream’ of power, money and materialistic possessions not being as desirable as one may believe, It is rather a false happiness when it corrupts the innocence of a child, and isolates a person into a miserable existence. Charles Foster Kane was a victim of this reality as his life story is told by the News March and by various people that were once a part of his life. The director, producer and main actor Orson Welles did a magnificent job portraying multiple different themes including the loss of innocence, power and money can corrupt and isolate a person, and can you really know a person.
The director of the popular 1999 movie, The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan, used various film devices to make the film a film of substance, suspense, and a sense of relief or discovery. The most prevalent film devices used in this movie are: foreshadowing, symbolism, and motif. These three film devices are used to assist the viewer of the film in fully understanding the plot and helping the audience to understand the significance of some dialogue or a specific shot in the film. In The Sixth Sense, a young boy, named Cole Sear (played by Haley Joel Osment), seems to have some sort of mental or psychological illness, which is later thought to be a type of childhood schizophrenia. He claims to see things and/or people that others cannot see;
Titanic: A movie on love. I consider it worth including because my theme is love and it is considered to be one of the best romantic movies in the world.
JFK, an American thriller directed by Oliver Stone, arrived in theaters in December of 1991. The movie scrutinizes the series of events that culminated in the shooting of President John F. Kennedy and the ensuing cover-up perceived through the eyes of former New Orleans District Attorney, Jim Garrison, who is played by renowned American actor, Kevin Costner. Some years following President Kennedy’s assassination, Jim Garrison filed charges against New Orleans entrepreneur Clay Shaw, who is played by actor Tommy Lee Jones. Clay Shaw was accused of allegedly conspiring against and contributing to a plot to murder President John F. Kennedy, for which Lee Harvey Oswald, portrayed by Gary Oldman, was found to be the assassin by two government
