I chose Franklin Roosevelt because knowing that he was the president that served the longest term; it made me want to know exactly what kind of person he really was. I want to know precisely why he ran for president. What impact did he have on America? What role did he play in WWII? Hopefully by the end of this assignment I will have learned something interesting about President Franklin Roosevelt.
I think President Roosevelt won the presidential election because he had already won the spot of New York State Senate, plus the position of New York’s Governor before his presidential years. The very first World War was the setup of World War II. This all began because Adolf Hitler was after world domination; to get what we wanted he signed some strategic treaties with Japan and Italy, and according to History.com staff “Hitler’s invasion of Poland in September 1939 drove Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany”. The outbreak of World War II happened in 1939 when the attack on Pearl Harbor happened it got the United States involved which meant that President Franklin D. Roosevelt had to get involved as well. By the time World War II had ended President Franklin D. Roosevelt had already passed away and U.S. President Harry S. Truman was in office. Honestly, If I had to give President Roosevelt a grade I would give him an ‘A’. Thinking about this carefully and taking into consideration everything he did for this country even though there were some wrong doings, I would still consider giving him a well-deserved grade. As I was doing this assignment I now understand more about the true responsibilities of a president and I think that President Roosevelt did really well at fulfilling his role. He did what he thought was necessary, he made the difficult choices without letting any emotion interrupt his thoughts. He knew that the United States citizens lives were in his hands and that they trusted him enough to know that he would make the best decisions.
