I am a firm believer that the education system in America does not prepare students for the real world, because of the fact that many schools are teaching students skills to "pass" their classes rather than succeed in life. I have been in school for eleven years now and still do not know anything about paying bills, taxes, buying a home, caring for a child, etc. although what I have learned is how to find the slope of a line, what the purpose of a nucleus is, how to solve for x, and more; yet I have never once used one of these things taught to me in everyday life. What should be taught in schools is a class that teaches students how to save as much money as possible while in college, or at least a basic understanding of psychology because
Some people might like education, others might dread it and really don’t see a reason to continue learning about it. Today, for teachers and professors it’s easy to them to tell how the education they teach is effective for an individual student. As we know, education is being taught at school, home, and a little of both. For America today, most children attend preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, and college. Depending on the pupil's career choice, it can take up to 20 or more years completing their schooling system, Usually, during the middle and or high school years in America, professors teach you valid things pupils will be using in life.
In the United States most schools use the banking concept of education which sets students up for failure in the future. Education's purpose is to push students to find their own paths to their own dreams. Students in high school and college are constantly asking if the curriculum they are given actually prepares them for anything in the future. But, while many students argue whether to believe if that’s true or not, there are other things the system still needs to do. Schools need to stop teaching students in a traditional fashion; it has to be one of the most important keys to preparing students for success.
All over the country, people are alarmed by the state of education. People are fearful that the young people graduation from high school today are not prepared for college, that they are not reading on a college level, unable to do basic math, ignorant of the important dates in American history, never having heard of Plato or Socrates, not even familiar with the bible stories like the prodigal son or the wheat and the tares. People everywhere ask themselves what we can do to reverse this trend.
For the past few years in America, the people have seen how much education has decreased in the country. The people are not educated well enough in a specific subject, and that is the biggest problem in society. Students go to school five days a week, and they take some classes that honestly are not needed nor will be needed in the future. If someone wants to be a Psychiatrist, why do students need to know what X is in an Algebra 2 problem? Students should take the classes and courses needed to pursue the students wanted career and not just a class to take up their time and effort.
12 years, 2040 days, 16,320 hours, 979,200 minutes, this is the amount of time American students spend on the first step of an education (K-12). After spending this massive amount of time in school you would think that students are leaving with a good education, right? But the sad reality of it is that American high school students graduate with a mostly irrelevant education and it is crippling them in the real world. I am a student at Denver south high school in Colorado, so I have been able to witness this issue first hand. Although Denver south has an impressive level of diversity of different ethnicities, cultures and ideals that adds a lot to the experience of a high school education, our curriculum is still far from what is should be. I 've witnessed students sitting at desks sleeping, playing on there phones or doing something completely different from what the class is doing, not saying that I do the same thing. Being a senior I was required to take a civics class, this class consists of mostly lectures that rarely interact with the class, for me this class is a study hall where I finish homework assignments and where I finished the majority of my college application I was able to do all of this while still maintaining a A, isn 't their a problem with this? The majority of teachers, and parents think that this is the student 's fault for not being motivated to learn and to resist boredom, on the contrary I
The United States spends more money on education each year than any other country in the world, yet the education system is not thriving. Three decades ago, America was the leader in the quality of high school diplomas, yet, students in the U.S. rate 31st in math literacy and 23rd in science in comparison to the rest of the world. (Federal Reserve Bank of New York) The country that is famous for being the most advanced and innovative country in the world is yielding a generation that is falling behind in the global education race. Public K-12 education is worsening simultaneously with the growing competitiveness of universities. Part of the problem is that teachers are not being paid sufficiently, and many find themselves being laid off. College is getting exponentially more expensive each year. These are only a couple of the issues that the american education system faces today, but the list carries on.
With every new school, there seems to be the “perfect” correlating curriculum. With every school, there seems to be some kind of underlying issue. Whether it is tuition, teachers, curriculum, or even the school itself, The Knewest of the New will be the best school in history. Community will be a basic necessity as well as passionate teachers. The Knewest of the New strives to instill creativity, passion, and determination into the young minds of the future.
What is it that’s making our country suffer from excelling in education? Very few would argue about the importance of our education system today. Issues such as lazy teachers, lack of parent involvement, and teaching useless information in class may hinder progress in today’s education system. An education plays a crucial role and is an essential tool, unfortunately, with all the jaded judgments; our students are not able to value their education. A proper education can open the doors to many opportunities that would have never been possible if it had not been for the knowledge and preparation that one received while in school. With the growing economy and desperate times, it is more important than ever for our country’s children to receive the proper education and training that is needed to allow them to acquire a good job and produce the revenue needed to live. Today's education system is flawed in many ways, and these flaws should be eliminated to ensure a good education for our future generation.
America’s education system is a disaster and the government has over the years spent millions on fixing the education system. The government has failed in fixing the education system because they are not the real people who can fix it. The government has made many different programs to fix the education system, like the No Child left behind program. Most people blame the government for spending millions to fix the education system and failing. What our society does not understand is that the government can only fix so much. It is time for all students, parents, and teachers to take responsibly and fix the education system in the way they want. Students, parents and teachers can make the education system better by students taking control of their own education, parents who care for their kid’s education and teachers who make amazing learning environment for their students.
The idea of education is that it properly educates students. American schools teach a variety of subjects over 12 years of schooling. The skills taught are supposed to prepare students for adult life. These skills range from basic math and english to more complex knowledge for those going to college. Students are supposed to graduate with some common knowledge. Most of the more advance learning comes from high schools. This is where they learn how to live in the real world. However, many students are not prepared for the real world. The American education system does not complete the purpose of educating students properly.
The American education system has many flaws. It is becoming more and more ineffective. To society, school is a competition especially in colleges and universities. People care so much about the grade they get that they forget the real reason why we even go to school; to learn. All everyone cares about is the grade that we receive. It has become so bad that we have lost sight in what’s really important; our growth as humans. We are taught that we need to get good grades in order to go to a good college, we are constantly judged on how well we do on tests using a grading, and most of the material being taught to us doesn’t even prepare us for what’s in store in the real world.
Well, Cal Thomas suggests in his essay that following old school rules may play a part; studying and staying in school, achieving an undergraduate, or graduate degree, avoiding drugs that can harm your body and mind, and getting married before you have children, and working hard to stay married. (Cal Thomas, Pg. 570) I subside with his suggestion on studying and staying in school, since receiving a college education can expand opportunities, and thus employment. For example; one with a college degree could receive a higher salary, and be able to provide his and or her family a decent living, corresponding with what the American Dream hopes for. “America will never get its act together until we recognize how much trouble we’re really in” (Cal Thomas, Pg. 570) Which is accurate considering many citizens fail to have a college education, thus leading them with fewer job opportunities. Pulling towards a few statistics, 70% of American’s don’t have a college education, which leads them to a lesser paying job, and decreases their chance of achieving the dream. I am aware it is possible to make a decent living without a college education, but according to Cal’s recommendations, it isn’t in the books. Bob Herbert talked about how there should be a need to shape the system, because thousands of teachers are being fired due to cutbacks. if the school system was improved, this would be a step in the right direction. (Bob Herbert, Pg.
What does education mean to us in America? Does it mean better money? Better job? More opportunities? While this was the promise that was told us Americans since we were children, decades later that promise doesn't seem so promising. Since we were children we were asked the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. We were told we could be anything we wanted to be, as long as we did well in school, then we would go to college where you can make your dreams come true. But now those dreams are just looking like dreams. College graduates are leaving school with no jobs and mounting debts, schools are closing in urban cities as well as dropout rates increasing. Our education system is in a crisis. This is a result of our old way of
I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they’ve graduated from high school or college. Education isn’t something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It’s a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela. Without education, there is simply no telling of what this world would be like. There wouldn’t be doctors, lawyers, businesses etc. Life and everything around us would be fatuous. Schools and education give us a plan in life and help guide us. Throughout the years education has changed tremendously. It had its improvements throughout the decades, and it also has had its falters as well. Education in America is an issue in this country and it definitely needs to be tweaked and improved. Education is what makes us people who we are and what we will be. Nelson Mandela had it right, there is no weapon more powerful than education.
