To begin with, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, “I walk slowly, but I never walk backward.Abraham Lincoln was an American Abolitionist. He had a hard childhood, he helped end slavery, and he was a President. Thanks to Lincoln, America is really, the land of the free and the home of the brave. As a starting point, Abraham Lincoln had a tough childhood and probably never guess what his childhood would be like. Lincoln was born February 12, 1809, in Hodgenville,KY. He was the son of Terah and Amathlaah. As a young child Lincoln had to step up in work because he only had two other brothers, Haran and Nahor. Lincoln fought in the civil war to end slavery. The civil war lasted from April 12, 1861 to May 9, 1865. Their first battle was the Battle of Fort Sumter and there last battle was the Battle of Palmito Ranch. Another decision Lincoln made, was signing the Emancipation Proclamation. “It stipulated that if the Southern states did not cease their rebellion by January 1st, 1863, the Proclamation would go into effect,” (civilwar.org,pg.1,par.1). Thanks to these decisions Lincoln made slaves might have still been around today. In the final analysis, Abraham Lincoln’s choices had a true effect on the U.S. Due to everything Lincoln did a lot of things happened. After winning the civil war, Lincoln made it so the southern states may not own slaves. He made all slaves in the U.S., citizens and he sent back and slaves that want to go back to Africa. Also, by signing the Emancipation Proclamation it gave African-Americans rights in the U.S. It also stated that slavery in the U.S. would be now to be illegal. Many were upset about these changes, but grow with the change. They started honoring him. He has his own monument and he is one of the four faces you can see today on Mt.Rushmore.
