The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea is a novel written by Yukio Mishima in 1963 and it revolves around concepts of traditional Japanese culture and philosophy and the contrasting values imported from the West. The novel as a whole is very politically charged mainly because it is an allegory of the effects of World War II on Japan and deals with the conflicting cultural principles that arose from it. The plot is set in a small shipping town in Yokohama, Japan and centers around a sailor named Ryuji Tsukazaki who abandons his post for a woman, and a boy named Noboru Kuroda who is a part of a secret gang of youngsters that reject mainstream philosophy and greatly despise Western influences on their way of life. Noboru and Ryuji are
Similarity in literature has been around for many years, meaning things have been somewhat the same for centuries. Furthermore, similarity is when two or more things have something in common. “The Seafarer”, “The Wanderer”, and “The Wife's Lament” bring many similar subjects, moods, imagery, and themes. These three poems share similarity because they are all around the same time period which is around a.d. 950 and they all talk about the main characters being alone and sad.
The main focus of the document, The Horrors of a Slave Ship, is over a topic of a young boy given the name Gustavus Vassa who shared his story of his own slavery experience. He writes about a journey of heartbreak and terror and all of the restrictions he endured. He first describes the day he was kidnapped, then all of the families he was sold to. At one time he was fortunate to see his sister for a last time before being sold again to another family. Vassa observes the differences and similarities between his culture and the families’ of his owner’s cultures. Towards the end of the document, Vassa describes Africa, and how he was shipped off to a new world. He had to endure the horrors that came with being chained up with the other slaves. The boy described the smell to be unbearable and that many people would choose death their current situations. By the end of the document he portrayed the way that people were being sold in an auction and the despair of agony when they were parted from their loved ones.
The Titanic’s maiden voyage was a disaster because many people died. The death of so many individuals could of been preventable. If the Titanic wasn’t moving so fast they could of avoided contact with the iceberg. Another issue was the lookouts didn't have binoculars and everyone ignored the warnings from other ships. Another reason so many died is because they didn't have enough lifeboats for everyone aboard. The lifeboats that they did have weren’t being filled to full capacity. More people could have survived than the few that did.
It’s a good thing I grabbed my diary before I went to the deck. The few days on board, I got to know many women who also had to leave their loved ones to keep their children safe. There was no food or any emergency supplies. After being so pampered on the Titanic, my mouth was parched and aching for something to eat. Most of the time, I worried about Kurt, Ingvar, and Amelia. I hoped they were safe. After more than three hours on the lifeboat, a shining light was blinding me. It was the Carpathia! Everyone on the cramped boat paddled toward the life saving ship. We arrived at the side of the vessel and a rope ladder was dropped from above. I used what little energy I had to climb it. Finally on solid ground, the events from the night crashed
Shackleton, the star of the novel ‘Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World’ was a very good leader, but what were three characteristics he could use for different occasions? He did show many different characteristics, but the best three I chose are Dauntless as well as Allegiance and don’t forget about Lively. Showing characteristics are always fun, but when you show good characteristics it’s even better. Shackleton is a prime example of showing good characteristics. “They could not linger in their cave all winter, dining on seal meat and toasting their feet at a driftwood fire. The men on Elephant Island were still counting on them.” The significance of this quote is so important because it shows that Shackleton does have loyalty to these guys. This man would not stop talking about his adventures in the south and kept on going back. This is an important topic to talk about because it may show others to be more like him and bring the good from inside them out just like Shackleton and his Dauntless, Allegiance, and Lively characteristics.
“The Horrors of a Slave Ship,” describes in detail, the tragic experiences of Olaudah Equiano as a captive slave. Equiano suffered many sleepless nights; he was flogged and kidnapped multiple times. Overall, the author tries to give readers their point across of the difficulties in being a captive slave.
Today we searched the shipwreck, that we found and found many cool things. The ship had 6 cannon ports and we believe that the ship had two masts. Also we found this ship 4,363 feet below sea. In the ship we found musket parts, ceramic cups and dishes, clothing, and a toothbrush. These items were from all over the world. The items were from Britain, China, Mexico, and and Canada. After we found these items I was extremely ecstatic, because I did not think we would find things like that. Also the items gave us clues to what kind of ship this was. We believe that the ship was a government paid ship, that went around the world and made sure the sea was safe. Lastly, there were two other ships found nearby and by our findings in the first
Founded in 1880, the site of Kyle, Texas, was selected based on the location of the nearby International-Great Northern Railroad route. By 1890, the population had grown to almost 800, and in 2010, there were more than 28,000 people residing in Kyle. Despite its explosive growth, most of the property owners in Kyle remain committed to maintaining their properties to ensure that the city retains its quaint charm. This includes maintaining the asphalt pavement found on many city streets, parking lots and residential driveways — and for more than three decades, Alpha Paving has been helping them with their asphalt installation, repair and maintenance needs. Whether they need new pavement, sealcoating or crack repairs, the people in Kyle know that
The conditions and common practices aboard a slave ship are horrific. I say this because they would use huge buckets to go to the restroom and the children would fall into it. They also were very cramped in that small space in the ship. The British also made them dance to think it is a way to be freed. The British also sometime throw some enslaved Africans over board if they wont do something they are told to do so. These are only some of the conditions and common practices aboard a slave ship.
Everyone knows the story of the Titanic. How the largest moving object ever fashioned by man hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sank in the middle of the North Atlantic. To contextualize this piece of writing, discussing the aspects of rhetorical analysis is essential. “Conspiracies – Titanic: The Ship That Never Sank” documentary depicts a completely new level of the dreadful incident. The Titanic was switched with its sister ship, the Olympic and it was the Olympic that was sunk deliberately as part of the greatest insurance scam in history. The film is based upon and directed by Robin Gardiner, one of the few researchers of the incident of Titanic. His purpose was to shine light on the fact that Titanic was condemned just for White Star Liners to avoid bankruptcy. It includes evidences of British as well as American inquiries, eye witness reports of survivors, and newspapers of the day, photographs, videos, film and radio broadcasts. However, it is indeed a story that has left many questions unanswered. Was it nature’s doing or human’s? Gardiner efficiently uses pathos, logos, ethos and kairos in his documentary so as to create awareness among people today of such an enormous insurance scam.

Our intention was to find a shipwreck deep in the Gulf of Mexico yet we found two sunken vessels. We think that the ships went down around the same time. This is the first time we ever go as deep as 4,363 feet down which makes this the first deepest investigation of american shipwrecks. From what we looked in we come to the understanding that we don't really know anythings about any of the three ships. We still have a lot of question about the ships which makes me disappointed because we really want to know what we are looking into. We have got the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to used the remote-control to be able to take a look at we we found which makes me so excited. From what we have seen from the remote control it seems
The two stories are going to be the “The Mysterious Treasure of the Unlucky Pirate” and “The Abandoned Children of Wailing Wood” the first one talks about a pirate named captain kidd a pirate who was first a merchant and then started stealing and got mad while stealing and killed a guy with a steel bucket and then his crew stole his boat and he chased them and buried his treasure while doing it and then he went there and got hanged because of killing that guy with a bucket but did not tell where the treasure was. The next story is “The Abandoned Children of Wailing Wood” the story is about two kids who live with a rich dad and got everything they wanted but a person got really mad and bought 2 robbers to take and kill the children and they
The comparing and contrasting of disasters is an incredibly significant process to the preparation of first responders and the staging of recovery operations. Through this analysis researchers are able to measure the outcomes tragedies have on the surviving populace, develop treatment programs and the implementation thereof. This paper will measure and examine the impact of two varying manmade disasters: the sinking of the British ocean liner Royal Mail Ship (RMS) Lusitania on May 7, 1915 and the Famine of the Bengal Province of British India in 1943. While these two disasters are not connected, the death toll of both events places direct emphasis on the loss life, questions of mortality and depression issues within the affected population.
