Edgar Allan Poe had lived a life of turmoil and tragedy, these melancholy events in his life where the biggest influences of all his works. While at a young age Poe had lost his mother and his father had left very early on, which lead to him living with John and Frances Allan in Virginia. He had a strong passion for writing, poetry more specific, but when it was time to go to college Poe was swamped with debt for his difference of what Allan paid which had made him resort to gambling. Around that time he had came home to find out that his neighbour who was also his fiancee was engaged to someone else leading Poe to leave and go off to the army which wasn't he particularly wanted to do. He soon after realised that writing was his passion and
One quote by Edgar Allan Poe that caught my eye first was “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream” (Poe "A Dream Within a Dream"). This quote shows that you do not really know what is true or what is not true (Shmoop Editorial Team 2008). One thing that Edgar was known for by a lot of people was for his horror and mystery poems he made. A couple of those literatures that he wrote were “The Tell-Tale Heart”, and “The Fall of the House of Usher” (Editors "Edgar Allan Poe" 2016). There is a few more poems that he has written which were “Al Aaraaf “, “Tamerlane”, and a collection of minor poems .Edgar Allan Poe has been through many difficult trials in his life.
Edgar Allan Poe, born in 1809, is a critic, mystery and short story writer, but most importantly a poet. Edgar’s troubled life greatly influenced his works. As a young boy, Edgar loved to compose poems for his loved ones. But as he grew older, Edgar started to experience pains and tragedies in life, causing him to abuse on opium and alcohol. These were scenes behind the years of Edgar’s dark writings.
Introduced by tragedies early in his life, Edgar Allan Poe became one of the most successful writers, poets, and storytellers to ever live. Edgar Allan Poe had the intelligence to do anything he wanted to do, however, the pain of losing his loved ones always seemed to drive him towards a pen and paper. His emotions never failed to show through his writings, which helped the story line touch the readers. Poe became very close to several different women but each would die shortly after he came to love them. This only pushed him to write more emotionally. Poe had a natural talent for putting his real life experiences into a fictional story and making it seem as if it were really happening.
Edgar Allan Poe grew up in many different places with many different people in his life.Poe had ups and downs, many good and bad experiences that he showed in his writing with the character . He wrote many poems, and stories about the experiences and feelings in his life for example tuberculosis, love, and madness.
Edgar Allan Poe has always been known for his depressing and sad writings. I have no doubt that these feelings would follow him into the present day. Poe didn’t have a good family life growing up. His parents were both absent in his childhood, and he was separated from his brother and sister to go off and live with John and Frances Valentine Allan. Poe was always a very talented poet growing up, but his literary passions were not supported by the household he lived in. Being suppressed as a child probably didn’t help his mental health nor did it help to cope with day-to-day life. As a young adult, Poe went to the University of Virginia but he could not afford to pay the
Edgar Allan Poe’s life had a very great effect on literature with the technical style of his writing. He is well known for his dark and gruesome tales. His dark feelings are reflected onto his writing, for reasons that came from his tragic life. Poe’s mother had died early in his life from tuberculosis, and his father had deserted him (Edgar Allan Poe- Biography). Poe spent most of his life raised by another family but he was never fully adopted (EAP-Bio).
Although Poe had a rocky childhood he was able to grow into a successful writer and inspiration to many today. Unique and unlike any other writer Poe was able to write his short stories and wasn’t hesitant about it either. “Poe had an extreme influence on two genres still being read to this day which would be Science fiction and Detective genres” (“biography of”). Poe later went on to be what some could say America’s first great writing critic. “Poe often called out authors that he believed were intimidating other authors” (“Spiridon”). “He was one of the first writers to really focus on Gothic themes and to make it okay to write about death in a new way” (“HRF”). This all started when “Poe had finally landed a job as an editor for a newspaper because, of winning a contest with his story “The Manuscript Found in a Bottle”” (“Biography of”). Later Poe became the manager of the paper. His first volume of short stories after that were, “Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque” (“Biography of”). The book was published in 1839, after that his career took
To Understand Edgar Allan Poe’s works we have to understand who Edgar was. Poe’s reputation was primarily based on his tales of terror. It made him seem as if he was a dark heartless man himself. Nevertheless, he was more that, he was the middle child of three, he had lost both of his parents at the age of three, and he had big dreams of being a great writer (Poe Museum 2014). As a young child, he was cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Allan. Mr. John Allan wanted Edgar to be a businessman and a Virginia gentleman like his self (Poe Museum 2014). Mr. Allan didn’t like the fact that Edgar wanted to be a writer (Poe Museum 2014). Edgar grew up in a good environment and went to the best schools, and at the age of 17 he went to the University of Virginia (Giordano 2007). During his college years, with the money that Mr. Allan gave him to support his schooling, Edgar would become an alcoholic and got into debt. Eventually, he drops out of school for a while, but by then he was well in his writing and was already on his first book called the Tamerlane (Giordano 2007). He didn’t have much money, so he joined the U.S. Army
Edgar Allan Poe in one of history’s most interesting Poet because of his very unique style of writing combined with the creepy and mystifying components of his works. Some say that Poe may have had some “help” with his poem, “ In Poe’s case, it is likely that his nurse tried to handle Poe’s unrest with bread soaked in gin and with Laudanum in his childhood” (Iszáj 1616), it is possible this action of soaked bread had become the way Poe treated his unrest throughout his life. As previously stated, these parts of his works are what turn away many readers of Poe’s work. However, this is what makes them so good: the poems are all about the meaning no matter how surreal. A great example of Poe’s work would be the poem The Haunted Palace.
Edgar Allen Poe lived a very traumatic life and faced very hard obstacles which would later inspire him to write or in other words form the gothic and horror genre. He was born on January 19, 1809 and unfortunately passed away on October 7th, 1849. His grief started at a young age when his father walked out on him and his mother passed away at the age of two. With the loss of his mother who he loved dearly and having to move away from his siblings also appended to the grief Edgar faced. Yet again when he was forced to move off to college his stepfather refused to help Edgar pay for school. This caused him to spiral into a deep depression. Many other students would come to look at his artworks and poems. Edgar used many stories to incorporate his
Massively recognized and known writer Edgar Allan Poe had a very different background and life story than what most people have had. Through out a lot of his writings he has written, he portrays his life experiences and reflects a lot about how he was mentally. The experiences and situations that Poe was subjected to was by no means what anyone should go through, especially at the age Poe experienced his tragic experiences. Though he faced many obstacles, he did not give up his passion of writing, as most people that would have gone through the same experiences would give up on life and their life aspirations. Poe’s writings are a true exposure of the view of the world through the eyes and mind of someone who has been permanently damaged through life experiences.
Edgar Allan Poe was not exactly a simple man to say the least, there were many tragic events within his life that influenced the man he was to become. Poe lost both parents by the age of three, which as you can imagine the loss of one parent would be hard on a child of any age, but to lose
Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, editor, and literary critic in the early 1800s. Poe’s short stories and poems are known for being thrillers. He wrote many short stories about mystery, but some of the poems are reflected on his life as a kid. At a young age, editors at biography.com writes, “Poe never knew his parents”. His dad walked out on the family and his mom died when he was three. After his mother died, he was put into childcare becoming an orphan. He was adopted by John and Frances Valentine Allan. Edgar and Frances seemed to form a bond, but he had a more difficult relationship with John Allan. By the age of 13, Poe was a prolific poet, but his literary talents were discouraged by his headmaster and John Allan (biography).
Edgar Allan Poe is an author of mysterious, frightful stories such as “The Tell-Tale Heart.”He was an immense writer and lived a mournful life. When viewing Edgar Allan Poe’s overall life,it looks as if he has been suffering depression. This would lead to committing suicide after his wife dying from tuberculosis and being insulted by his writing style. This would commence a feeling of being stressed and create a negative phase for his brain.
Edgar Allan Poe’s life works are a reflection of who he is may it be crazy, depressing, or frightening. His background is what makes him a unique writer, all the horror he writes about is real and he has faced. He takes the main idea from his own life and adds details to describe how he feels making his story realistically horrific because it is real. Many authors just take ideas out of their brain which is great but writing book and poems from your own life, things that really happen is taking it to the next level making it exciting and
