In discussions of obesity in America, one controversial issue has been the question of what is the ideal diet for the average person? How does one stay healthy? Some would say eating organic and a little exercise does the trick; others would say it really does not matter as long as you portion. Regardless though, there are quintessential items that must be present in a persons diet to function and not all of what is out there is healthy. Although some people like
Radley Balko who wrote “What you Eat is Your Business” believe that what you eat is your own personal responsibly I disagree because there are some people who just cant control what they are consuming.
Organic food is all the rage in today’s society, and it is definitely the more healthy

It is not all our fault though, the article states how the “data were accumulating that portion sizes of many foods and beverages had increased substantially.2 Furthermore, nationally representative survey data from the United States indicated that as portions increased in size, people reported that they had been consuming larger portions” which puts the blame somewhat on the these fast food restaurants (Rolls 2014). If everyone is selling larger potions it is very hard to notice when it changes in size. There are various different meal portioning plans people use today; for example there are things like weight watchers and lean cuisine that already exist; people seem to think they work pretty well.
Some people mistake portion control with starving yourself when in actuality it is not that at all; it is eating until your full rather than stuffed.
There will always be a debate on what is the perfect way to maintain a healthy diet. No body really knows the perfect way, but consuming organic food and portioning is a start to a healthy life style. There have been numerous studies that clearly point all fingers to the health benefits of eating organic. Also With all the increased portions at restaurants and movie
and make small changes like from simply eating organic foods, it would help our internals which
The links to good nutrition in diet and health are scientifically proved from many studies. Good and proper nutrition helps to maintain good health and prevent disease. A diet of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean and low fat meat, and dairy are essential for a healthy balanced diet. However, a well balanced does not include foods that contain added sugars, high sodium, saturated fat, and high caloric foods. Good nutrition is a valuable asset. Well fed people are more likely to be healthy and productive. Everyone benefits from good nutrition.
In conclusion, I believe people should choose a low-fat diet to obtain a normal healthy lifestyle. I believe that the low-fat diet can also stimulate us to do better. So, instead of being on the high-fat diet that causes many problems and illnesses, its better
Today eating has made a major impact on what choices we make when making a meal or choosing where we go out. Many people seem to think that dieting is the answer or cutting out things that have too much fat content or too high of sugar. Others on the other hand seem to have other solutions to how this issue can be controlled. In the essay, Escaping from the Western Diet, by Michael Pollan has an interesting way to dieting and it's not your typical way you would think. The other essay, Food for Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating, by Mary Maxfield mentions, “Trust yourself. Trust your body. Meet your needs. “(Maxfield 446). She thinks that we shouldn’t really care but still meet your needs. The way we look at dieting
When considering differences between organic and conventional foods often the first thing people comment on is the nutritional value. Organic foods have grown in popularity due to the perception that they are better nutritionally. Barbara Hey (2009), health reporter and author of the article, “A Different Health Debate: Conventional versus Organic Food” and Smith-Spangier, Crystal, et al. (2012), emphasize that the benefits of organic foods and farming are important to society. That organic food can help protect what’s most valuable to people, their health. They suggest that eating a healthy diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants is a good investment in preventative care. Jeff Gillman (2008) agrees and states, “ …preventing disease is much more cost effective than treating disease. Organic foods can play a vital role in keeping people healthy” (139).
Fukuoka main point of this article is to inform people that there is more to eating than just the nutritional value and now the Western culture values the wrong ideas when it comes to fueling your body. He starts his article off by comparing the daily meal of ancient farmers to todays Western mothers. This comparison shows that even with out scientific facts the farmers were able to live long healthy lives with a simple diet of brown-rice and vegetables. The Western mothers he referred to force bad tasting food down their children’s throats because they believe that is the only way they will live long and strong. Another point Fukuoka makes is that the Western diet separates people from nature, “The diet that results serves to isolate human beings from nature. A fear of nature and a general sense of insecurity are often the unfortunate results” (72) this quote suggests the diet is pushing humans farther and farther from our roots. With this separation we are becoming more isolated and distancing ourselves from nature causing us to fear our very own
In the United Sates approximately 10 percent adults were recorded to be obese during the 1950s. Helen McClintock noted that, “In 1980, 7 percent of children ages 6 to 11 were recorded to be obese.” In 2011 to 2012, the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) reported almost 35 percent of U.S. adults were obese. The growth in obesity in American citizens has increased in the last six decades. There are many reasons for the increase in obesity in the U.S. One of the reason is the average restaurant meal is four times larger than it was in the 1950s. “Researchers found that children who watch more than three hours of television a day are 50 percent more likely to be obese than children who watch fewer than two hours”. The unhealthy food
It is filled with things like fat and salt that is unhealthy. The author says, "Ingredients such as salt, sugar and fat are sometimes added to processed foods to make their flavour more appealing and to extend their shelf life, or in some cases to contribute to the food's structure, such as salt in bread or sugar in cakes." The author also says, "These foods can also be higher in calories due to the high amounts of added sugar or fat in them." Processed food is full of sugar which is very bad for the body since some people cannot dispose the sugar
The idea of eating healthy however is arbitrary. When we were kids, we were all taught that following the “food pyramid” was the
Shannon Brownlee, in It’s Portion Distortion That Makes America Fat, provides an example of the increasing portion sizes by expressing,”Mcdonald's introduced its large fries( large being a relative term since at 3.5 ounces the ‘72 “large” was smaller than a medium serving today)”. The quote pulled from Shannon Brownlee’s article gives an example of how much the portion sizes have changed from 1972 to now. With the the portion sizes becoming larger and larger it brings more calories and more fat to the plates Americans are eating. Over the years the portions have become so big the size of plates today look like what a plate serving 2 to 4 people back in the 50’s would like. Also since the 1950s clothes sizes have become bigger. Marilyn Monroe who was a model in the 1950’s was considered a plus size model. In today’s size variety of clothes Marilyn Monroe would be considered 12 sizes smaller than the average person today. Clothing companies in today’s generation have sizes that vary from every single store, if a girl were to wear a size 2 pant at Macy’s she may wear a size 4 pant at Target which means that clothing companies are changing their variety of sizes. Clothing companies are adapting to the new needs of people by making their clothing sizes

It is necessary to collect raw data in order to draw conclusions, so, for this population an observational study was used to obtain data. The collection process is actually quite simple, as McDonald’s french fries are all that are needed. However, around fifteen samples of large and small fries is the recommended minimum number of
From 1960-62 to 2005-06 the number of obese Americans almost tripled from 13.4% to 35.1% (Weight-control Information Network 2). These two extreme upward trends might make a convincing case that the extra fast food intake has caused the hike in obesity rates, and it may very well be a good indication, but it is far from proof. Too many things have changed over the years, from the way the average American exercises, to the types of other food that people are consuming.
Over the past 50 years, the way we eat has changed more than it had in the previous 10,000. Now, 60% of Americans over the age of 20 are overweight. The fast-food industry is highly responsible for today’s health epidemic. Some people choose to blame the government for not balancing individual rights, and the common good. However, the government is not forcing you to eat. You put yourself at risk of diet related health problems.
Supporting point 2: Overweight or obese people increase due to too much intake of fast food.
