What is laughter yoga?
Laughing for no reason is the crucial foundation of the laughter yoga. It helps the individual develop a feeling of childlike playfulness, release the stress, enhance immune system, and induce positive thoughts and feelings. Dr. Madan Kataria, the founder of laughter yoga claimed that our body cannot distinguish between the genuine and fake laughter. Hence, though the individual simply laughing without any humors or funny pictures through the unique laughter exercises, the pretend laughter might turn into real laughter soon and possible. With this technique, the individual will be able to cope with the stress well and show composure in a difficult situation. It is basically the same as the traditional yoga which consist of yoga with stretching techniques and breathing when doing the laughter exercises. The duration for the laughter yoga is around 30 to 45 minutes per session and facilitated by an instructor. Besides, laughter yoga is an easy and breezy technique that suit for most of the people to learn and it is still new in psychological field (Satish P, 2012; Laughter Yoga International, n.d.).
