What is a computer?
When trying to explain the computer to my grandparents I realizing just how complicated it is Explaining what it is and why it’s so powerful, the differences between data and information and how the computer knows what to do.
First what is a computer? A computer is a general purpose device that can be programmed to carry out a set of arithmetic or logical operations. Since a sequence of operations can be readily changed, the computer can solve more than one kind of problem. Conventionally, a computer consists of at least one processing element, typically a central processing unit (CPU) and some form of memory. The processing element carries out arithmetic and logic operations, and a sequencing and control unit that can

ARPANET's main job was to research computer networking in order to provide a safe, secure communications system in case of war. (Internet)
If we didn’t have computers we wouldn’t have so much information at our finger tips it is astonishing to think how computers came about, how would we get answers so quickly. A second reason why computers are powerful is because people make them powerful by putting mass information and data into them for easy access latter.
Third there is a difference between data and information Data is raw, unorganized facts that need to be processed. Data can be something simple and seemingly random and useless until it is organized. And information is when data is processed, organized, structured or presented in a given context so as to make it useful, it is called Information (contributors.) Information is interpreted data. An example of data is a single person’s bowling score is one piece of data and information is The Bowling team’s average score is the information that can be concluded from the given data. (Introductory com2)
Finally how does a computer know what to do? Computers cannot run unless they have a commander computers have programs that have special language telling it tasks to do. It is hard to believe somebody just thought of an idea like this and was able to make it happen. In the past 50 years we have came up with several billion ideas that actually work out well! It is crazy to look around everyday
Data is defined as useful raw material which is intended to be useful for both the originator and for the intended receiver. Data consists largely of facts and figures ideal for communicating the intended meaning. This data can be interpreted and can be categorised as follows;
There have been many advances since the initial invention of the computer fifty years ago. Today, computers operate many of the things that we use in everyday life. Some examples of these things are farm machinery, cars, planes, video games, heat and water delivery to our homes, banking, billing, and even the stock market. The advances of the computer have resulted in the
Computer- A computer the process-recieves in, thinks about, changes, stores, sends out, displays, and prints data in the form of bits.
Information is data that has been processed so that it has meaning and value to a recipient,
Computers were always intriguing at an young age but I never attempted to understand them
Data comprises of factual information. Data are the facts from which information is derived. Data is not necessarily informative on its own but needs to be structured, interpreted, analysed and contextualised. Once data undergoes this process, it transforms in to information. Information should be accessible and understood by the reader without needing to be interpreted or manipulated in any way.
Information: It is interpreted data which has been given meaning. It answers questions such as “who”, “what” and “where”. It is data which is organized and structured.
Overall, the book tells us about the people involved the making of the Internet. Through the efforts of these geniuses, we see that the work on the "Arpanet" and Internet, as in the rest of the field of computing, was a team effort, with contributions from many individuals and organizations. And, as stated earlier, this effort also had much government support. Thus, many people and institutions were responsible in the making of this incredible instrument of computer technology.
A computer is a device that can be given a specific set of instructions to perform a tasks under logical terms. Computers were created as tools to assist humanity in solving problems and achieving goals. During the events of World War II, computers were developed to decipher encryption amongst telegraph messages between the Allies and the Axis. These events have lead to modern day encryption to keep us safe in the case of losing our social security status or our bank accounts robbed. Which is a negative outcome to the invention of the internet. The World Wide Web was developed twenty-six years ago in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee and has lead to the use of computers to transmit data of the over the internet and across the globe. Computers have
In today’s modern world, it’s hard to imagine life without computers. Throughout the decades, computers have gotten better, faster, and smaller. It’s hard to imagine that before the 20th century almost all calculations were done by mechanical devices such as the electromechanical computers; or, the first digital computers that had huge tubes around them that you had to designate a whole room just to fit the computer in. Today we have Internet, phone book, pictures, videos, telephone, mail, and camera that is compacted into one tiny device that can fit in your pocket.
Perhaps one of the greatest inventions of out time is the Internet. Without a doubt, the net has had a profound effect on almost every aspect of our lives. The formation of the Internet has changed the way we do business, communicate, entertain, retrieve information, and even educate ourselves. Nevertheless, the Internet might have never materialized if it had not been for some innovated thinkers from the Advanced Research Project Agency, who created "ARPANET." In collaboration with several educational and research institutions, the agency created the packet-switching technologies that form the basis of the Internet today.
Computer literacy is the level of proficiency and fluency someone possesses amid computers. Nevertheless, computer literacy commonly implies to the capability to manipulate applications rather than to program. Entities who are vastly computer literate are from time to time identified as power users (Computer Literacy , n.d.). Computers have affected each of our lives: the manner by how we work, the manner of how we learn, the manner in which we live, yet even the means we play. It virtually is unfeasible to progress complete a single day without coming upon a computer, an apparatus reliant on a computer, information created by a computer, or a word that was established or whose implication has transformed with the introduction of computers. However, because of the importance of computers in today’s world, it is essential to be computer literate.
3. Data – is the heart of the software. Software cannot function without it. Data can be qualitative and quantitative. Every data is an information.
A computer is an electronic device that stores, retrieves, and processes data, and can be programmed with instructions. A computer is composed of hardware and software, and can exist in a variety of sizes and configurations. Hardware is the physical equipment of a computer system, including the central processing unit (CPU), data-storage devices, terminals, printer, etc. Software is a program or set of instructions or rules that control the operation of a computer.
A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and automatically manipulates data, and provides output in a useful format.
