The exposition of the story is when Swift and Henderson are debating over whether the machine, Multivac, or the men who created it, won the war for Earth. The rising actions of the story is when Henderson explained how Multivac's data was corrupted and how he created his own data to put in the machine and how he believes he won the war. Jablonsky then discredits Henderson and states that he knew the machine was malfunctioning, so instead of the computer making suggestions, he made them himself, so he believes he won the war. Swift then states that he couldn't leave such an important decision up to the computer, and he ignored anything that came from Jablonsky. So, neither man won the war.
