Throughout this project my intention is to learn about all my career and college options for my desired job which is a sports medicine physician. With this report I aim to learn as much as I can about that job because then I can make an educated decision whether or not I want to pursue this career. As I write this Career Research report I hope to learn what high school and college classes I need to take and how many years I need to attend college. I hope that this paper helps me wrap my head around this job and decide whether this is a career I would like to do further research in.
As my senior year began I was currently enrolling into different colleges, Canisius College being one of them. Alot of questions were asked while enrolling such as, why would I be a good fit to the college, what are my interest, and of course what would be my preference in major. I was undecided and overwhelmed. I constantly changed my choice and told individuals different majors I could be interested in. Each day I enrolled into a new school, my major would be different, one day I would be into law, the next day forensics, the next week psychology, and then dentistry. Two different motivations that pushed me towards my major in adolescent education was my National Honor Society advisor and my favorite movie “Freedom Writers.”
In college, a student must study courses to prepare for medicine, such as biology, chemistry, and some advanced mathematics (“Becoming A Doctor” 1). The first four years, the student would take pre-medical courses while earning their Bachelor’s degree and taking courses that are required for their degree plan. Then the college graduate will advance into medical school, where for four years the student learns about the area of medicine they choose (“Becoming A Doctor” 1). It generally takes seven to eight years to finish a medical doctor’s education (“Becoming A Doctor” 1). After medical school, the graduate will apply for an internship that would last about one year. Then after the internship, they become a resident and practice medicine under the supervision of a senior doctor (“Becoming A Doctor” 1). Altogether, it is about 11 years before one actually becomes an independent doctor (“Becoming A Doctor”
To be a proficient doctor, one must also be a good communicator and treat his or her patients in an empathetic manner. An
1. Find yourself a career that interests you. There's nothing better than getting up each morning and do what you love. Think hard and long when deciding which road to choose for your future. If you know right away your decision, that is even better yet that it will be the right
Even before I start to go to college and study medicine, there are many different things that I can do to get a head start. Having a strong mind and having to work very closely with children and patients is a great deal of stress for an intern or a new student, thus it is recommended that a person start to take classes in how to work in a stress filled situation. Individuals must be “...patient, persistent and straight on into what they are learning and what they want to learn”(Occupational Guidance). Students can prepare by studying English, science, social science, history and mathematics such as Algebra 2 and Calculus. Besides studying from the above, it is also recommended that students take a foreign language and three courses in
A pediatrician job is to help children everyday. Pediatricians help children by treating an acute and chronic illnesses. To be a pediatrician you have to go through many years of schooling. Pediatricians have to go through pre-med, med school, and residency. Not only do pediatrician have to go through schooling but they will have to be licenced. To get licensed they have to take an exam. Pediatricians have to have basic skills. Basic skills are active listening, critical thinking, decision making, speaking, and reading comprehension. Also, pediatricians need these skills, oral expression, problem sensitivity, and deductive reasoning. Overall, I provided different and helpful information about a
Experiences throughout life can help shape people into stronger, more intelligent individuals. One of the most influential experiences an individual will ever face is deciding to better their education and continue onto college. Deciding to go to college is a major investment that will effect a person for the rest of their life. Unfortunately, such a large decision can be overwhelming, and many students, like myself, have to make the difficult realization that the University they chose was not the most beneficial choice.
I want to use college as a way to become a better citizen by expanding my perspectives and opinions and providing me with new experiences and opportunities to engage with different people. I believe that Getting a college education will also give me the opportunity to build a better future for me and my family. By studying I hope to learn how I can improve the health of people in the diverse communities surrounding me and work to end the violence found within them.
Being a doctor is my long-lasting dream. Likewise, to be a doctor is to fulfill long educational process of medical science through twelve years. As I plan my educational goals, I will major in Biology and enroll in pre-medicine program in order to obtain a medical career. After earning my Bachelor's degree, I will have applied to a four-year
I graduated college in 2012 and have since adopted the city of Rochester as my home. My partner and I committed ourselves to this community last year when we bought a home downtown. I am intent on picking a career that is worth dedicating my life to and that will benefit others in my new community. The discipline in which I earned my Bachelor’s degree leads to a shallow career path that wouldn't benefit others in any fundamental way. I am only now redirecting my career and volunteering as a literacy tutor has been a rewarding first step. I became a tutor because of an awareness I gained while learning Italian as a second language and participating in a language immersion study abroad program where I lived and worked in Italy for six weeks and
They say that college is what you make of it. It's a place of freedom. You can do whatever you want. Wanna go bowling? Sure. Wanna workout? You can. Wanna learn about the arts and humanities? Go for it. This is where my problems began. I stopped paying attention to my education and got caught up in other activities. To tell you the truth, I wasn't properly motivated to do well in college. Yes, there was the general rule of getting good grades to get a good job, but was that all that there is in college? Because of not having a drive, I didn't get straight A's, nor did I ever realize what would happen because of this. I regretted my mistakes when I started to apply for internships. Companies would look at my resume with disappointment. I had the experience, just not the GPA. I saw my friends and family getting internships and opportunities. That was when I decided to get back up on my feet, and start doing something, anything, just to try and get out of this hole I made for myself.
All doctors must complete a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program. You must have at least three years of college to enter a M.D. program, but many students complete a bachelor 's degree in a science-related subject before entering a M.D. program.(7)
Attending college was never an option for me according to the Los Angeles Unified School district. The only reason I even attended junior College was because I wanted more for my life that did not include endless work in retail or fast food jobs. I got myself through a few units on my own at East Los Angeles Community College. Doubted my ability to learn every step of the way, due to many years of Special education program in the LAUSD system. As a child I was a selective mute; spent my first two years of education not speaking in any classroom setting red flagged me to the teachers. Never finding support in a teacher I always felt held back given the minimum work and never the opportunity to grow. I went my entire first through senior year
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” As a child, we have all been asked this question; and as unrealistic children, we all had dreams of being a superhero, princess, cowboy, or astronaut. Later on in life, as time went by, and as we became more knowledgeable, our answers became more serious. Some of us wanted to be teachers, business owners, or a veterinarian. However, I have always wanted to be a doctor, but not just any doctor. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a pediatrician. Now, half way through my junior year in high school, I have started to question the details of this career, and all the hard work it takes to become a part of the medical field.
