When The Game Stand Tall Essay

A speech from the movie “Remember the Titans,” (2000) brings out the importance and reasoning for the movie to be made. The Gettysburg Speech, by Coach Herman Boone is very strong and straight to the point of the movie. Coach Herman brings the movie to life with his speech about playing the game on a battlefield. He talks about how the fight for lives were fought on the same field as the football team were playing on to fight for their lives. This speech is meant for any age group, although it is specifically addressed to ones who play football. Coach Herman Boone uses the rhetorical appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos to inspire the football players to remove all their hate to become an actual team.

The two stories, High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game, build up the protagonist Rainsford and Kane in different ways, and create similarities and differences in which these characters have. The differences impact the stories to make them different; however, they still end up being some what the same. As these stories progress, there are similarities that start to form. High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game both have common ideas that help create the stories but also share a handful of differences as well.

I will be comparing the video verion of The Most Dangerous Game to the story.

The performances in this film make you feel like these characters, even though they have no redeeming social qualities at all. It is hard to not feel a certain amount of sympathy for the main characters as they go from the victimizers to the victims.

How would it feel to suddenly go from being the hunter to becoming the prey? That is exactly what happened to Rainsford, one of the main characters in The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. Rainsford was a big game hunter who accidentally fell of of his yacht. He swam to a nearby island, and there he met General Zaroff, a cruel man who hunts humans for sport. In exchange for release from the island, Rainsford agrees to be hunted by Zaroff. Consequently, Rainsford is a survivor because he kills Zaroff and wins the game. Rainsford is also a survivor because he demonstrates the qualities that a person must have to be considered a survivor. Although Rainsford is a survivor, Zaroff is not. To be considered a survivor, a person must go through a traumatic or life-threatening experience but still demonstrate resilience and determination.

Sports are a significant part of society and spectators enjoy particular events regardless of the type. However, there are many players who develop special working and social relationships with whom they are participating regardless of the type of sport. The relationship and how people interact with one another can be the determination of how successful a team can be. The particular film based on a true story that I chose is titled When the Game Stands Tall. This film consists of a high performing football team of De La Salle High School in the state of California. Jim Caviezel portrays the head coach (Bob Ladouceur) as a man with such vision and passion that goes beyond the fundamental principles of coaching the game of football. The football team had won 151 games without being defeated which is the highest winning record a team has had in the game of football. The film shows the internal struggles of the players in their lives as people, and how they perform on the field. It also shows the external tragic difficulties that they face while they attend and play for De Le Salle High School. In the movie, the head coach helps the students/players by not only coaching them but also showing them how to live a flourishing life by committing to endure difficult life situations and the way to overcome them. In this film, it also shows how important their loved ones are to them. Like when the three girls get taken away, they used their hands to bang against the window, showing their sadness of separation, and their connection of their love and wanting to be close with their family at every time possible, because every time they were together was a moment each treasured. Their grandmother felt the pain they were feeling, of desperation, frustration and powerlessness, and that is shown to us when she hits herself with a rock on her head to make her bleed. Also the howling sounds she makes shows the pain she feels and makes us feel her pain, too.

It all began on November 3, 2015 during my first middle school basketball tournament. The grey brick walls of the gymnasium looking more like a prison than a school. The school’s “Lincoln Park Elementary School” sign had graffiti and missed a couple letters from the name. The court was terribly small, but we began by playing the superb team of Jam on It. We were blown out and I headed back up to my mom and dad in the parent filled stands. The game wasn’t even fun to play and we looked like third graders playing them. I looked up to my parents as sad as could be.

“A loud and spirited crowd has the potential to alter the result of a game” (Benavidez). Almost every sport’s fan in the world would agree. A large crowd is one thing, but a large crowd who is passionately cheering on their team plays a crucial role in sporting events. When asked the question on how school spirit affects his team’s performance, Seth Mcgowen responded, “It increases the morale of the player. When we see there’s a big crowd there cheering us on, we feel like we have to do better so that we don’t let them down. If they’re shouting my name and cheering for me personally, it makes me step up my performance and do something great.” Key words in Mcgowen’s response are “cheering us on” (Benavidez). Mcgowen said an enormous crowd is not what encourages the team, but an enormous crowd that cheers does. Former Tupelo High School basketball coach Jerry Lee Clayton preached the importance of having school spirit and used to tell his players, “A school without spirit is nothing, but a school with spirit has the power to do miraculous things.” Athletes want school spirit from their town and school because they have the chance to feel an emotional connection with the fans. What team wants to compete for a school that does not support them, but all teams want to compete for a school that gives them full support. School spirit has the power to affect a team’s performance, and that is a benefit almost everyone can

Pity, fear and emotions are purged through the dramatic actions. The scene contains painful actions such as death on stage, bodily agony and wounds.

This movie was sorrowful and some parts terrifying, for example, when the Jews getting killed for no reason, just because they were Jewish. These aspects were affective in the movie because it helps the movie look more realistic and more historical. The creators do a good job capturing empathy because the audience knew who were the characters and knew what was going on, most of the audience were hooked on it.

Within Hollywood’s movies depiction of drug addiction, many have failed to represent all true aspects that come along with such lifestyles. The movie, The Basketball Diaries, is based off a novel Jim Carroll wrote from his own diary entries. As a teenager growing up in the sixties, Carroll reveals his progression of drug abuse which eventually leads him addicted to heroin.Heroin is a white powder derived from morphine found in opium. It is commonly prescribed as a painkiller, but is also a popular street drug.The director casted Leonardo DiCaprio as Jimmy, and concentrates on creating the character as a stereotypical drug abuser. An uncharted realm of darkness is what comes to mind when one thinks of death. When talking about death, we will put it at the back of our mind, neglect it and move on to ordinary problems of life. It is not because we think death is still far for us to think about but it is because we are too scared to think about it. This is a prime example of the very human nature, denial. It is a famous human defense mechanism which helps making our life easier to some extent by clouding our thought process to think about day to day life problems. But one thing that troubles me sometimes do we really need to worry about it too much when it comes to everybody?
