In the beginning of the novel, Dally is a cold person, someone with no fear. He lived in New York for some time previously, and is described to be a much more harsh gang environment. He robs stores like nothing and has a lengthy police report, filled with all kinds of little tales of illegal activity. At the drive in movie he treats Cherry and Marcia poignantly and doesn't even flinch at their pure disgust toward him. Ponyboy describes him as the coldest and toughest, and even though Ponyboy doesn't like him, he respects him.
Another piece of significance is when Josh states that he could just hop on his bike and ride away from it all. ¡§On this bike I could ride and ride and ride, away from here, up and over the Cascade, through the Willamette Valley, until I reached the ocean, where the broad black backs of whales regularly broke the surface of the water, and ever farther.¡¨ This shows how he could easily just run away from everything that is happening. He¡¦s stating that he doesn¡¦t have to become a man yet and could just have fun and live free. He doesn¡¦t do this though; he just wants us to know that he can. This shows that he is ready to become a man just like his father.
This causes Dally to become reckless and finally ending in him being killed by the police, Ponyboy tells the reader “Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted.” (p.187). From this the reader can gather how the events had modified Dally, creating a more emotional and caring character, weakening his value for himself and in return, strengthening his value for others.
The boy realizes that maturity comes with responsibilities, and in order to be considered an adult, one has to face the consequences of one 's actions. Before facing his father he says "should he so much as threaten the razor strap I would ride away on Isabel and be lost to them forever", this shows that he wants to run away from his problems. However, after his father does not get angry at him, he realizes that his father has gained confidence in him and is proud
For example, he has a loving family who would always be there to support him. In conclusion, the conflicts in the story, person versus society and person versus self, show the need to be optimistic during tough times.
The common theme they share is if something needs to be done you have to go and achieve it. In the poem it says “The people I love the best jump into work head first, without dallying in the shallows.” In the poem the last sentence says that the kids are walking through the snow and no person or thing is going to stop them from getting to school. It also states that he has to shovel snow he said “ he could leave it undisturbed” but he said he has obligations and the kids walk down his street to get to the school, he had to get it done so the kids could walk to school. There was another snowfall after he had just got done shoveling snow the first time and he knew that he had to shovel it again so he went outside and shoveled it again. The poem
It seems that the people around us can heavily influence the decisions we make in our everyday life. In “The Harness” by Ernest Buckler, the relationship between seven-year-old David and his father, Art, show that one event can lead to a whole new relationship that changed for the better. Based on these events, it can be said that even the smallest actions can have the most meaning to someone.
This quote creates a effect of betrayed and disbelieve and a bit afraid because the example of the son betraying the father, who were so close and they survive together through the worst and then almost the end of the terror they leave the person behind which cause the people to watch there back and trust no one.
They have not escaped from anything, life is still the same as it always was. It is through these unfortunate, but inevitable, events that the brothers are able to reconnect and to obtain an understanding of each other.
“Hey, Johnnycake!” Two-Bit yelled from the street. Johnny waved back, a smile lighting up his face.
At dawn, her father has fished through the girl’s pocket for the key to the secret cupboard. He took it and went to talk to the policeman... He explained the situation. He was trying to remain calm, the girl could tell, but he was at his breaking point. He had to go and get his four-year-old son, he told the man, He would return here, he promised… The father urged the man to come with him, to accompany him, he was just going to get the boy and come back, immediately. The policeman ordered him out of the way. (45)
Every single day his older brother would try to help him to stand on his own. After hours upon hours and days upon days eventually Doodle would stand on his own. One day while their family was eating they had a surprise for them. Being Doodle standing on his own, so they had their family gather around in the living room his older brother brought Doodle in, with his wagon. Their family watched in amazement as Doodle stood up. Doodle’s mother got up ran to him and hugged him. Doodle told their family it was his older
Even though these events are not directly connected in anyway, a common theme I found between all of them is that people in these situations keeping an attitude of hope. These are clearly not ideal situations you want to find yourself in, but in any of these situations
