I have to disagree. I feel that from the very beginning, white people came to America and took over and margionalized everyone around them making whites the stronger race. The reason why there is such segration between our races is because white people made the segregation. White people are the majority in charge and have not done much to level the playing field in a way where eveyone has access to better education, health care, and more. To say that whites don't bear any responsibility I personally feel is a very ignorant way of viewing it.
Ellis Island and Angel Island were the dominant ports of entry for the ‘new’ immigrants on the East and West coast. Both immigration stations had certain similarities in how they operated, such as the conducting of medical examinations on immigrants for health or mental deficiencies, and also in their ability to generate the fear of deportation in newly arriving immigrants. Despite this, Ellis Island and Angel Island were shown to differ significantly in many other aspects within the stations, such as in living conditions, the length of detainment and the amount of families separated during the process. However, the crucial difference between the two stations is race, as Ellis Island was shown to function as a processing centre for European immigrants; whereas Angel Island was a prison for Asian immigrants, the majority of whom were Chinese. This difference in attitudes towards different races of immigrants, impacted all aspects of the stations and ultimately the rate of admittance into the United States during their time of operation.
With scientific racism “scientist saw mental abilities and personality traits as racial characteristics.” With this, whites were seen to be “innately superior to other races.” They had science backing their superiority, and only gained from it, separating themselves from the rest of society. With these ideas put in place by imperialism, white Americans were able to rule the country, and all other races in it because they felt like they were superior, and more fit to govern the nation. By feeling superior to others, the whites segregated themselves from the rest of the community, and aided the division in the
African Americans were confronted with a practically unconquerable number of obstructions in 1900. Any way you take a gander at it, as far as the instructive framework, especially considering the way that the greater part of them, the expansive lion's share are still in the South. What's more, to the extent instruction is concerned, African Americans are given no road of training on the lower level, which makes it troublesome for them to seek to advanced education since they don't have the basics to get to that point. State funded schools are interested in African Americans just in little groups.
I recently had trouble understanding the concept of "New Immigration." I did some extended research on various websites and had a question pop up. I read that Old Immigration was referred to as the time of immigration before the Gilded Age, and New Immigration happened during the Gilded Age. However, I could not categorize the Chinese immigrants to either New or Old Immigration. Were the Chinese separate from the New Immigration, or were they involved in a direct way? If you could answer this question, that would be
New immigrants to the United States seized the chance to own land in their new country. Immigrants who wished to claim property had to first file intentions to become American citizens. Some states and territories even advertise in other countries, hoping to attract more people. Earlier immigrants encouraged their countrymen to homestead, describing life on the plains and officering advice, which resulted in people from all over Europe migrating to the west. So many Swedish and Norwegian immigrants arrived in Minnesota during the late 1860s that an editor of the St Paul Pioneer remarked: “It seems as if the Scandinavian Kingdoms were being emptied into the state” (Porterfield 31-3). Immigrants often settled in separate ethnic communities,
With different time periods comes contrasting views, problems, and achievements. The settlers in the colonies faced different hardships, but also had some similarities with immigrants in the Antebellum period. The settlers from the Antebellum period came from Ireland and Germany, while the colonists came from England. Despite being in different time periods and involving diverse groups of people, these immigrants had many similarities, and differences. The people in both time periods had reasons for immigrating, faced problems, and had goals they wished to achieve upon their arrival.
Interwoven through history are the have and have nots. Those who come from privilege tend not to recognize those privileges, while those who fall into the marginalized groups have an uphill battle. White privilege is a set of institutional beliefs granted to those based on their skin color. These individuals have better access to privilege and resources. Much of these privileges are seen through types of employment, amount of compensation, quality of schools, and racial profiling. Among these few privileges one can see daily how the people of color are affect with basic needs as well.
Immigration is something that nativists have been fighting ever since the first ship load of immigrants came to America. Even today we see the struggle to keep them out of our country, although the tactics and overall feelings might be a little different today than in the 1800’s. When an immigrant first arrives to America one of his first priorities is to get a job, and that posed a problem for the Nativists because the immigrants were working for such low wages that they ending up taking all the jobs of the Nativists. Another thing that the Nativists had a thought might be a problem was over crowdedness, with millions of people coming to America they saw growth in cities and in rural areas. And of course with growth in population
Today in America minorities are still treated as if they are some type of animals, like dogs, being caged and made to work for a bone that has already been cleaned. Minorities have are being mass incarcerated so that caucasians can remain in control and feel as if they are superior. Jim Wallis who wrote How to Preserve White Supremacy is a firm supporter of making sure white people remain “superior” by doing things such as racial gerrymandering, fighting immigration reform, and resurgence of white nationalism. He is one of many people in America that believes that caucasians have to remain “superior”. But how can you really be the superior race when your entire being is based off of stealing land and other people. Are minorities really the
Yes, white people sell drugs, buy drugs, commit crimes such as burglary, robbery, rape, and even murder as well as a lot of other things just as any other race is capable of and has done but the rampage killers that we often see in the news for things such as shooting up public places like schools and movie theatres are done by white people. The kinds of crimes white people commit that are highly publicized and are the ones that hurt many people at one time in one place. “Nearly everyone who has murdered a large number of people in one horrific event has been white. American bomber Timothy McVeigh took 168 lives at the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, many of them preschoolers at day care, in the worst incident of domestic terrorism until 9/11. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, the Columbine high school killers, shot thirteen of their fellow high school students, then took their own lives in 1999. Adam Lanza killed his mother, then a class room full of six and seven-year-old’s and six school personnel before killing himself at Newtown Elementary school in Connecticut in 2012. Earlier that year James Holmes shot 2 movie goers in Aurora, Colorado. All these men are white, as is the case for virtually all
In American history, “white men” are inherently dominate. In all affairs including family, ideology, culture, politics, and more, white men are superior. This is due to the creation of the United States, and the roots of its people: Europeans. The United States was built by Europeans, who are inherently white. Even the most substantial figures of history were once British.
In many people's minds there has been controversial claims that white people, the majority, is superior to racial minorities. Many people still argue that the treatment of racial minorities is still extremely bad and unfair. The treatment of minority races has always been awful and cruel, but has gotten progressively better throughout history.
I swear to God that white people don't care about our fucking rights . I will be stating how this is true. My first reason is police brutality. For example, in Cleveland at a local park an innocent young boy was shot to death. A white officer responded to the call, the call was that a young boy had a bb-gun. My next reason is growing up black. Watching a crime happen and then the police jump to conclusions and think it is you. Also the reason the judge you is because of the way we dress, they way our hair looks and mostly where we live. My final reason is racial profiling. For example, white cops are judging African Americans for crimes they didn't do. As can be seen, African Americans need justice.
White people have an invisible package of unearned assets. Invisible in the way that they can't be seen or touched, but can be cashed in everyday at colored peoples expense. White people have these unearned advantages and privileges just for being white, and in our society this leads to a systematic tendency to over empowerment, where denial of these advantages occurs leading to no changes in society.
To begin with, I agree because many things you touched on was very much true. Nevertheless, history has shown us, that the Europeans came here pulling their way into a land they stoled. With this in mind, they became the minorities even though they bullied, atloed, and killed people outside of their race. All things considered, entitlement and privilge without justification inturn is nonnegotiable in their book.
