This week’s assignment started by directing us to complete a self-assessment, which I felt was a well laid out chart with established skills and a level in which to rate yourself from 1 being poor up to 5 being good. I think it was a good exercise, giving us a better insight to our strengths and weaknesses. I do in fact think that I learned something new about myself and could more easily answer the question of “tell me your strengths and weaknesses”, which is often asked at interviews or promotion boards.
For this project you will be completing the StrengthsQuest exercise and then compiling the information and findings comparing your personal strengths with your current job.
From the Strength Finder website questionnaire, my individualized leadership strengths are as follows: achiever, command, context, focus, and significance. In this essay I will elaborate on these in detail and the ways they explicitly relate to my personality and the different experiences and activities of my life. I have also researched several articles that discuss transformational leadership and how this pertains to the literature on the subject. I will discuss transformational leadership in comparison to my own strengths, and explain how my leadership style may progress as I advance through this nurse practitioners program.

According to Mussell (2005, p. 116), physical needs are “needs that must be met for the healthy maturation of the physical body include: oxygen, food, water, rest, exercise, sensory stimulation, safety and security”. It is said that “physical wellness is what often comes to mind when we think about being healthy, and for good reasons: the health of our bodies is critical for overall wellness” (Green, 2017). In my option, physical needs are how physically active I am from day to day and the foods that I am putting into my body. Although I have decent eating habits, my exercise and sleep routine are not as regular; in the sense that I am more focused on other important aspects of my life. I often catch myself not interested in going to the gym and come up with every reason to not go. Although I know all the health benefits of being physically active, I often find myself doing other important things in my life such as studying or going out with friends. Furthermore, I have not really put into perspective how sleep is also a main element of one’s physical development. I constantly find myself waking up numerous times throughout the night, and not being able to fall back asleep. This often leaves me restless throughout the day, and I constantly find myself taking naps. This not only influences my mood, but it can impact my academic studies, and overtime I may need to seek help for my sleep patterns.

Once I went through the full assessment for mental and physical health, I was able to see areas I scored high in, and areas that I scored lower in and need to improve on. Areas I scored higher in were physical activity, physical health, emotional problems, pain, and social functioning. The area I scored the lowest in was energy and fatigue. Furthermore areas that were in the middle were general health and emotional well-being. Therefore the energy and fatigue is an area of concern and something I should try to improve.
Right now, I think my current strengths are exercising regularly and being willing to make a change in my life. My Body Mass Index is also in a healthy range. As for my weaknesses, I have a lot to work on. I know I need to start eating a healthier diet. I also must work on better stress management, especially because I am both in school and have a part time job. I could already tell in my day to day life that I needed better sleep habits as well. The LifeStyle Management Health Risk Inventory has given me some suggestions on how to improve my health. The inventory gave me strategies to avoid slips in my exercise routine, such as thinking of the benefits of exercise and reminding myself that I have committed to a healthy lifestyle. As
Finding your passion is a process that works from the inside out. Getting to know your likes and dislikes allows you to pick jobs that complement your strengths. However, if we don’t know ourselves well enough to identify those strengths we may need to look at what we do for a living to see what we are good at. Strengths usually become strengths because we spend a lot of time in that area, and we normally only invest time in areas we are passionate about.
