Which historical figure do you admire most and why?:

“They cannot stop me. I will get my education if it is in home, school or any place” Malala Yousafzai declared in an interview with Diane Sawyer (Teri Whitfield and Muriel Pearson 2013). Miss Yousafzai, a young woman of courage and bravery from Swat Valley Pakistan, made that statement in defiance to the Taliban. Her mission is to impact the world of education. In 2012, when she was my age (fifteen), Malala was shot by the Taliban on her school bus for openly supporting girls’ rights to education in Pakistan. As an insightful young girl, she openly acknowledged that a child should not be in fear just to attend school. Faced with a decision impossible for an adult to make, she saw that she had two choices: “one was to remain silent and wait to be killed and the second, was to speak up and then be killed” (Yousafzai 2014). Malala Yousafzai exclaimed this in her Nobel Peace Prize Speech, and she chose the latter option, realizing that at one time education was a …show more content…

Again, she achieved such an admirable distinction, but while winning that honor and standing up to the Taliban are certainly both worthy feats, what I found most admirable is her unselfish determination to continue a worldwide movement for education for every child after achieving such fame and notoriety. She is truly a significant role model for young teenage girls. Like Malala, but on a smaller scale, I try to act as a role model and lead other students around me to work harder or to climb higher in pursuing their own education, fulfilling Malala’s plea that we push ourselves to excel
