Most features come in the form of add-ons that add desired functions or themes to the browser. Tabular page views have become a common feature across these browsers, allowing users to view multiple sites without switching back and forth between different windows. Security is a hot topic feature these days and each company has several features to add to the security and privacy of their users. Firefox has private browsing and do-not-track modes that prevent cached information, cookies, and browsing history from being stored on your PC (Mozilla, 2012). Internet Explorer has similar private browsing modes and tracking protection; it also comes with several customizable filters and screening that will block content automatically, a popular feature for family computers (Microsoft, 2012). Google’s Chrome browser prescreens websites to alert you of suspicious or harmful content before you reach the site. Their private browsing function is called Incognito and can be used for individual tabs without adjusting privacy settings overall. Chrome also manages cookies differently allowing users to opt-out of personalized ads without having to keep third party cookies on your machine. Other browser specific features are Sync for Firefox which allows you to continue a browsing session on any machine and will port over your personal settings.
