When the Supreme Court ruled that nine teenagers would be chosen to integrate LIttle Rock’s Central High School, the citizens of Little Rock responded in many different ways. Most of the students at Central High School were very rude to the nine students and very few were kind to them. In the book there were many instances were the students were rude but one example was on page 72 when the nine students walked in the school most students were yelling very rude things to them.
Chamblee, GA is a small city outside of the metro Atlanta area that is characteristically different racially and ethnically than everything around it. The Hispanic population stands at 58.5% of the total population as of 2010, but in Atlanta and Georgia more broadly, this population only makes up 5.2% and 8.8% respectively. Additionally, only 7% of Chamblee’s population is Black, whereas this group is 54% of Atlanta’s population and 30.5% of Georgia’s. However, my alma mater, Chamblee Charter High School, stood out from the city itself being an amalgamation of a magnet program and a charter public school, bringing in students from around the county with significant representation from the Chamblee area as well. Consequently, the school’s
Carolina Flores has had an extraordinary experience at Casco Bay High School. She had a passionate smile as she said, “I would redo my four years here again.” Her journey before a CBHS was different. Her 8th grade year everyone kept telling her only weird go to CBHS or it's a hard school. But her mother didn't wanted her to go to Deering High school because her older sister had a horrible experience at DHS. “My older sister didn't want me to same experience as she did in high school,” Carolina said. But right now she is so grateful and thankful for mother forcing her to go Casco. She learned how to come out of her comfort zone, for example, her biggest millstone was being a dj at her 10th grade year for the Halloween dance.

High school is a big part of an individual’s life; it can change how people view themselves. From the beginning of high school I knew that I was going to community college because both brothers went, which influenced me to go. Since I new where my life would be after high school I discourage myself and was put into a fixed mindset. In Dwecks article Brainology she describes how students with a fixed mindset think which states” but those with a fixed mindset were most
Carolina High School, located in Greenville County, was established during the 1956-1957 school year as a 9th-12th grade public high school. With fourteen high schools in the district and over 72,000 students, Carolina High is the smallest. In 1995, Carolina High was selected as a magnet school where Pre-Engineering and Health Professions would be its focus and students from all over the school district could apply. At its peak enrollment, the school served over 1300 students but after the changes the community faced and closing of the local mills, enrollment dropped and today it serves a little over 700 students. According to the 2010 Census, the community that Carolina serves has an average per capita income of $36,296 and a quarter of the families in the area reported an income of less than $15,000 per year. Over 20% of the population reported to have a single mother raising children in the home and 44% are considered renters instead of homeowners.
Have you ever thought about the choices that you have made in the past and how they have affected you as an individual? Truth is, as people grow and develop they each have their own way of thinking about what they can do or what they can learn. All of this is happening in the brain, and each person has a different way of thinking, learning, and solving problems. The study of the brain is a real puzzle that to this day, it is still unsolved. There’s study is known as Brainology, it has to do with a person 's mindset, and the idea of having a fixed or growth mindset. In the article “Brainology: Transforming Students’ Motivation to Learn” by Carol S. Dweck, she talks about different ways that our mind can be influenced and how by saying
While reading Too Cool for School by Ellis Cose I have became aware of various aspects of my ‘schooling’ experience. I realized that I may not have had the best schooling experience, but I never pushed up against the system to get any better. Throughout my life I have attended over 10 schools some very high end others bottom of the barrel. Like Cose, I always knew my intellectual abilities, but I was always so dissatisfied with my situation I didn't make the best of it. Instead of soaking up as much knowledge as possible and making a lesson out of my situation I became complacent. I started to slack off and allow myself to become stagnant to what I knew my abilities were. I allowed myself to be a product of my environment when I should I have
Education is always a controversial topic. Especially that topic is about high school to educate. Rebecca solnit emphasizes that high school has a inaccurate system to educate, it identity students that who they are in the rest of life, people should escape from it. Also high school like a jail, you have to conform or take the punishment. However, I disagree with her, because I believe high school is an important part of life, and high school direct ways for students to be successful.
Education comes from the actual knowledge of things not just knowing a few fun facts. Pushing for what you strive for shows a great deal of
Textures and materials are experienced through vision and touch. Playing with textures can create a better experience for the user or even help with wayfinding for people who are blind. In Diamond Ranch High School, the firm, Morphosis designed the school with multiple textures and materials throughout.
During my eighth grade year, one of the main focuses on every one’s mind was the Magnet Test. If one were to score high on this test, they would get accepted to the High School Magnet that specialized in their career choice. Unfortunately for me, if you are from Trautmann almost all of your fellow classmates will attend United High School whether they get accepted or not. Even though I greatly desired United, I was in conflict with the fact that the medical magnet, which interested me the most, was in Alexander. For the next few weeks, I heard nearly all my peers talking about how excited they were for the United Magnet Program.
The two films of documentary Educating Essex and mockumentary Summer Heights High both have troublesome teenagers as the centre of the text. Summer Heights High has Jonah, Jonah is from a Tongan background and is the main trouble maker in the school. Educating Essex is the documentary of Vinni, Vinni was a bright, likeable star pupil when he came to Passmore Academy school in year 7. Vinni was affected by the breakdown of his parents’ marriage, he was unable to emotionally cope and he went down in a spiral becoming a nuisance in the school. The comparative essay question is asking me, what is my view of the topic question. That if documentaries and mockumentaries Can give a meaningful, objective and realistic portrayal of the modern male
Yet even with these realizations that delve into the deeper meaning of education, modern education is still calling for simple measurable outcomes and continues to be geared towards specific employment ideas. This model of education is blatantly inadequate though. Many students today will end up holding jobs not yet invented in fields not yet discovered, so the teaching of answers to today’s questions is utterly useless. Albert Einstein once said, “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” and this statement reigns true throughout time. To continue academic success, the education system needs to impart a mastery of one’s own mind that allows students to not only answer current questions but also to pose questions that will shape the future world.
The education we receive today holds the power to shape the individuals we will be in the future. Not only does our education aid our choices throughout school, but also the choices we make in our personal lives like where we choose to work and how we portray ourselves to society. Personally, I have enjoyed my educational experience. I have enjoyed learning new concepts and interacting with new people. Of course, there are obstacles along the way. However, these obstacles have given me the opportunity to realize my strengths and weaknesses and learn to improve in both areas. As a student, I hold onto my perseverance, seek guidance from influential figures in my life, and embrace my challenges to which all contribute to my hope to become the finest version of myself.
