1 Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? Maybe some one who has been a mentor to you? Why and how did this person impact your life? I was really lucky to have great bosses that were all mentors they were all very experience and knowledgeable. When I first started out as a manager my first mentor was the head of the company and he came up to me one day and asked me to be in charge of the start up in Singapore and he asked me to go home and pray about it with my wife. I felt that Proverbs 16-9 “a man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps”. Fell on my heart and I shared that with my mentor and boss that it was not time for me to work in Singapore. The mentors that I have had have each been a turning point in my career, but more then half the time my mentors were Christian which was very important for my own growth in my faith. It is so important for people to seek out people to be mentors too. I preach this big time at work because I always had someone to share my experiences and learn form theirs. A good mentor sees something in you that you don’t even see yet. What they see if potential. That’s why Proverbs has such a special place in my heart. I always tell young leaders what when you are fresh out of the MBA you may not get the job of your dreams.
