Many people in history did great things. United State presidents for example, did everything for their country. Even though their are good leaders, some are cruel. In Egypt, a pharaoh could execute a person for no reason. A good leader needs the traits of leadership, intelligence, discipline, and integrity. One specific leader in ancient Greece was Alexander the Great. Alexander did not belong in the category of “the greats” For example, Alexander fought 4 battles during his conquest. If he was great, he would have fought 1 or none (Document A). Even though Alexander founded many towns, he could of made a peace treaty, or formed an alliance with the cities he fought. One reason that Alexander doesn’t deserve to be called great is that, he slaughter thousands of people. In document C, it states that, “Two thousands men of military age were crucified.” The evidence shows that many people were killed while he was growing his empire. Also, the evidence shows that he is mean because many people were killed in the fighting.
To be great is to be exceptional in a way. Many people throughout history have been considered great. Whether it is because of their political prowess, academic intelligence, or militaristic achievement or a combination of the three. It seems that people were considered great significantly more in the past. Maybe it was because people were better or because now people have extremely high standards. However, some people who lived in the past even with today's standards would be considered great. Alexander the Great was truly deserving of his title because he expanded from Greece, down to Egypt, and across to India, he also was a wise a brave military leader, and he began the Hellenistic age by merging Persian, Indian, Greek, and Egyptian cultures.
